Olympic Analyst Craig Masback to Receive Akron Marathon Ambassador Award
Akron, Ohio (August 10, 2012) – Olympic running analyst Craig Masback has
been chosen as the Akron Marathon 2012 Ambassador Award recipient.
Each year, the Akron Marathon, presented by Time Warner Cable, recognizes
an individual who has demonstrated superior service and dedication to the
running industry or who has earned respect within his/her community for
exceptional accomplishments.
For the Akron Marathon's 10th annual event, organizers have chosen Masback
in recognition of his sustained contributions to the sport of running,
including his representation of Team USA 10 times in international
competition, his 1980 U.S. indoor mile championship and his former American
record for 2,000 meters. Of the 30 sub-four-minute miles Masback has run,
his fastest time was 3:52.02.
Masback's contributions to the sport are not limited to his performances on
the track. Masback is also the former CEO of USA Track & Field (USATF),
has provided television commentary on various track and field events for
NBC, CBS, ESPN and ABC for more than 30 years, and is the founder of
Inclyne Sports. He currently serves as the Senior Director of Sports
Marketing for Nike's Global Sports Marketing Division.
The Ambassador Awards ceremony will take place at Fairlawn Country Club
Thursday, September 27. Masback will be available to meet attendees at the
Health & Fitness Expo at the John S. Knight Center Friday, September 28.
Masback can be heard on NBC providing television commentary on various
track events from the London Olympics, including the Men's Olympic Marathon
which will be broadcast live on NBC on Sunday, August 12 at 6 a.m. EDT.
The Akron Marathon will take place Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 7 a.m.
Participants in the Marathon, Half Marathon, presented by Acme Fresh
Markets, and the Team Relay, presented by Novo Nordisk are encouraged to
register early as race caps are expected to be met. Registration is
available at www.AkronMarathon.org. Participants who register by August 13
will receive a personalized bib.
