Legendary Race Directors Team to Head Amica Marathon
Charlie Breagy, Bob Rothenberg and Danny Gough direct Amica Marathon
this fall in Newport
Providence, RI - Three of Rhode Island's most well-known and experienced
race directors have joined forces and will execute the 2009 Amica Marathon
this fall in Newport, RI.
Rhode Island's legendary race directors Charlie Breagy, Dan Gough and Bob
Rothenberg have teamed up to lead the 2009 Amica Marathon, slated for
Sunday, Oct.18, 2009 in Newport. The announcement was made today by Eident
Sports Marketing. Amica Insurance is the Title Sponsor of the event.
Together, the trio has over 50 years of experience directing major running
events in the Ocean State.
"Their names are synonymous with running events in Rhode Island. We are
excited to have Charlie, Dan and Bob behind the Amica Marathon," said John
Mathews, president, Eident Sports Marketing. "With their knowledge and
experience, we certainly can expect a first-rate running event in the City
by the Sea."
Breagy oversees several of Rhode Island's major running events, including
the upcoming inaugural St. Pat's 5k, Cox Providence Rhode Races and CVS
Caremark Downtown 5K. He, along with Rothenberg, directs the New Balance
Ocean State Invitational, the largest high school cross country race in New
England.
"To have the opportunity to work together with Bob and Danny on the Amica
Marathon is a privilege. We all bring something different to table.
Together, I am certain we will be able to execute a top notch race that
runners will flock to annually," said Breagy.
Rothenberg's lengthy resume includes 17 years as the men's and women's
track and cross country coach at Brown University. He currently heads up
the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Track &Field Championships.
"The three of us bring a wealth of experience to the table," said
Rothenberg. "We are excited to work collectively on the Amica Marathon and
bring this event to the next level."
Gough, a world class marathon runner himself, has also directed several
area racing events.
"I am thrilled to be able to join forces with Bob and Charlie to execute
the Amica Marathon," said Gough. "Participants can expect a well-run event
that will be directed with the runners' best interest in mind."
The 2009 Amica Marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifier. The event includes
a marathon, a half marathon and a team-relay competition.
The Amica Marathon offers runners a historic and scenic course. The route
begins in downtown Newport, runs alongside Newport harbor, past picturesque
Ocean Drive and along historic Bellevue Avenue. The second half of the 26.2
mile course runs besides the Sakonnet River. The finish line is at scenic
Easton's Beach.
The Hyatt Regency Newport (http://newport.hyatt.com) will serve as the Host
Hotel for the Amica Marathon. The Hyatt Regency will host the expo and race
registration.

Proceeds from the Amica Marathon benefit the Providence Ronald McDonald
House, which provides a temporary home to families with children
hospitalized at local hospitals, including Women & Infants, Hasbro
Children's and Bradley Hospital.
