Atlantic City Marathon to Makes Waves in AC
with Thousands of Runners, Spectators and Guests October 11-13
ATLANTIC CITY – Over the past 54 years, the Atlantic City Marathon has
become an Atlantic City icon as the third oldest marathon in the United
States. Annually, this race attracts thousands from all 50 states and
countries around the world.
The 55th Annual Atlantic City Marathon will take place on Sunday, October
13, 2013 beginning on the Boardwalk in front of Bally's Atlantic City Hotel
& Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.
Close to 4,500 runners will participate in the entire weekend of events
including the Shore Medical Center 5K and 10K, the half marathon and
marathon, as well as, the Kids Fit Final Mile, a one mile race sponsored by
Atlantic County Council of Education Associations.
Official sponsors of the Atlantic City Marathon include Shore Medical
Center, 95.1 WAYV, the Milton & Betty Katz JCC, Caesars Atlantic City,
Bally's Atlantic City, Spirit Airlines, Steve & Cookies by the Bay, Revel,
Harry's Oyster Bar & Seafood, PowerBar, The Press of Atlantic City,
Atlantic City Weekly, AtlantiCare, Just4Wheels, Borgata Hotel, Casino &
Spa, The Current Newspapers and Nirvana Water.
New sponsors for 2013 include NJ Best College Savings Plan, Kline
Construction, Honest Tea, Courtyard Marriott, Atlantic County Council on
Education Associations and Tropicana Casino Resort.
Shore Medical Center will be sponsoring a 5K and 10K on Saturday, October
12 when runners will race down the boardwalk and be cheered on by hundreds
of spectators, family and friends.
The 5K and 10K will start at 9 a.m.
The marathon and half marathon will be held on Sunday, October 13 with a
start time of 8 a.m. The marathon runners will run a 26.2 mile certified
course that strategically travels through the scenic streets of Atlantic
City, Ventnor, Margate and Longport, beginning and ending on the beautiful
boardwalk of Atlantic City.
Along the route, runners may add a little pep to their steps while
spectators shake a little more than just their hands as they listen to a
variety of live bands and disc jockeys during the two days of racing. The
live band element, which was added in 2012, was so successful, it will
return again this year with local radio station 95.1 WAYV and its sister
stations hosting local musical talent throughout the race route on both
Saturday, October 12 and Sunday, October 13.
The weekend also consists of a two-day Sports & Fitness Expo beginning on
Friday, October 11 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday, October 12
from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Caesars Palladium Ballroom, 2100 Pacific Avenue
in Atlantic City. The Expo is free and open to the public.
Sports and fitness exhibitors from all over the country will sell and
display their merchandise including sneakers, fitness apparel, energy bars
and more. Informational and educational exhibitors and speakers will
promote a cause or address a sports-related injury.
The Atlantic County Council of Education Associations will be sponsoring a
timed one-mile Kids Fit Final Mile on Saturday, October 12 at 11 a.m. on
the boardwalk. Sign-ups for the Kids Fit Final Mile will be at the Expo on
Friday, October 11 at the CASA of Atlantic and Cape May Counties' Booth 5
and on Saturday, October 12 until 10 a.m. at Michigan Avenue and the
Boardwalk.
Adding to the fun of the day and racing just before the Kids Fit Final Mile
at 10:45 a.m. will be area celebrity Mascots including Cha Cha the Frog
from Rainforest Café, Pete the Lighthouse Pirate from the Cape May Lewis
Ferry, Seaweed the Sea Turtle from the Ocean Life Center in Atlantic City,
Super Can from the ACUA, Clifford the Big Red Dog from the Milton & Betty
Katz JCC "Camp by the Sea," Comfy the Bear from South Jersey Industries,
and from the Cape May Police Department Scruff McGruff and Eddie the Eagle.
Proceeds from the Kids Fit Final Mile will go directly to the efforts of
CASA to speak on behalf of abused and neglected children in the foster care
system to ensure the children are placed in safe permanent homes as quickly
as possible.
On Saturday and Sunday, the Finisher's Village will be open to runners and
located at Dennis Courtyard at the Boardwalk in front of Bally's Casino and
Harry's Oyster Bar & Seafood.
