The Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon Poised For Record-Breaking Year
The Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon once again is poised to break all
records for the number of entries.
With one month to go to Marathon Day – Monday 5 May – more than 11,000
people already have signed up for the challenge of the 2008 event.
And, as entries arrive by the sackload at Marathon headquarters in south
Belfast, thousands more are expected to join them before the entry deadline
of Friday week (18 April).
As ever, the largest proportion of entrants will be taking part in the
relay event: so far, some 1,300 teams will be lining up on the starting
line at 9am on May Day Bank Holiday. Almost 1,700 runners so far have
signed up for the main Marathon.
"There is no doubt that the interest in the Belfast Marathon continues to
grow," commented Claire O’Reilly, the event manager.
"We’re literally inundated at the moment, and we’re working very hard to
process all the entries. But, all the effort will be worth it on Monday 5
May, when we enjoy the biggest Belfast Marathon yet," she added.
