FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Marathon Entries 'On the Up' Again
Entry numbers for the 2013 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon are already
ten per cent higher than this time last year.
With just under 16 weeks to go until the May Day Bank Holiday event, almost
1,100 runners have signed up for the main 26.2 miles race, while entries
for both the team relay and fun run are also up on the same time in 2012.
Last year, some 21,000 people took part in various Marathon events, and
organizers are confident that number will be matched, if not surpassed, in
2013.
"The number of entries we have received so far is hugely encouraging," said
Danny O'Connor, Chairman of the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon
Organising Committee.
"The huge success of last year's London Olympics has spurred many people
into taking up a sport, a new challenge – and what bigger challenge can
there be than to complete a marathon," enthused Danny.
"In the past seven years, we have more than doubled the number of people
taking part in the event, and n a totally fantastic, record-breaking 21,000
people took part in the 2012 Marathon and all its associated events."
The 2013 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon takes place on May Day Bank
Holiday Monday, May 6, starting from the City Hall at 9am. Further
