FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CITY OF OAKS MARATHON AND REX HEALTHCARE HALF MARATHON
RETURNS ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 7
Registration is now open for the Triangle's largest marathon event
RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA (January 27, 2010) – The City of Oaks Race
Committee has announced the fourth annual City of Oaks Marathon and Rex
Healthcare Half Marathon, presented by Raleigh Running Outfitters. The race
is scheduled for the morning of Sunday, November 7, 2010. The Race
Committee has launched online registration through the official race
website, www.cityofoaksmarathon.com.
Like last year's event, the 26.2-mile marathon and the 13.1-mile half
marathon will start and finish on N.C. State University's Centennial
Campus. The race, designed to showcase the beauty and diversity of the
Raleigh metro area, hosts thousands of runners who hail from areas across
the Triangle and across the nation. The event raises money for the Leukemia
& Lymphoma Society and the Rex Healthcare Foundation.
According to Race Director Ben Hannas, the 2009 event hosted nearly 3,500
participants and raised $40,000 for the race's selected charities. "We had
a great turnout last year, given the cold and pouring rain throughout the
entire event," Hannas said. "This year, we're hoping to expand even more by
attracting more out-of-town participants." Hannas served as the course
director during the event's first three years and was promoted to race
director last month.
The marathon follows the same course as last year's event. It includes a
run on Hillsborough Street to reach downtown Raleigh, a short loop in the
city center that includes a run by the State Capitol building, and a scenic
trek inside Umstead Park. The half marathon also tours the downtown area,
running the same course as the marathon for the first eight miles, then
picking up the final five miles of the marathon course, skipping the
marathon's hilly pass through Umstead Park.
The marathon and half marathon events award a combined cash purse of
$23,000, in addition to commemorative awards and other giveaways. Both
races begin at 7:00 a.m. on race day.

Marathon, visit www.cityofoaksmarathon.com. All registration is being
handled on line.
