It's A Sell-Out For the Fifth Straight Year!
Nationwide Insurance Columbus Marathon, 1/2 Marathon Field Full
COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Nationwide Insurance Columbus Marathon and 1/2 Marathon
reached a capacity field of 17,000 total registrants today - an event
record over its 32-year-history and the fifth year in a row the event has
sold out. The event will be held on Sunday, Oct. 16; start time is 7:30
a.m.
"We've sold out earlier than ever despite increasing the size of the field
this year by 2,000 participants," said Darris Blackford, Race Director of
the Nationwide Insurance Columbus Marathon. "Registration for both events
has outpaced last year's registration all year, and we're looking forward
to hosting 17,000 athletes on Sunday, Oct. 16th for the 32nd anniversary of
this great event."
In addition to it being a great event for participants, the marathon and
1/2 marathon is an event for the entire Central Ohio community to enjoy.
Race weekend will feature:
Health & Fitness Expo: The Expo will be open from noon to 7 p.m. on Friday,
Oct. 14 and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15 in Hall D of the
Greater Columbus Convention Center. The Expo will feature more than 120
running and health and fitness related booths, interactive games and packet
pick-up. There is no race day packet pickup.
Music and excitement: There will be more than 100 bands, live entertainment
and radio stations lining the course. The Danger Brothers will get the
party started with a live performance at the start line. Additionally,
there will be a fireworks display to kick off the 32nd anniversary race.
Celebration Village: In addition to all the finish line food and activities
for participants, there will be inflatables for the kids and a stage with
live music featuring the band Swagg and Moving to Boise at the finish line
in Arch Park (McFerson Commons). And, for the first time ever, we will have
food trucks and carts at the finish line with great food to purchase
including tacos, cupcakes and grilled cheese.
The 32nd Anniversary Nationwide Insurance Columbus Marathon will be held on
Oct. 16. The Nationwide Insurance Columbus Marathon and 1/2 Marathon was
the 17th largest combined marathon and half marathon event in the United
States in 2010, according to Running USA. Throughout its 32-year-history,
it has played host to participants from all 50 states and approximately 40
countries. Additionally, the Nationwide Insurance Columbus Marathon is one
of the top 10 marathon events for number of Boston Marathon qualifiers; and
it's the number one marathon in Ohio that feeds qualifiers to the Boston
