The Cowtown Sets Registration and Course Records
(Fort Worth, TX)---The Cowtown held on Saturday, February 25 and Sunday,
February 26, 2012set a registration record for the 34thrunning of the
annual Fort Worth, Texas event.
25,564 runners registered in six races topped the 2011 registration mark
by 3,475 participants. Each of the individual races set a new registration
record since the Cowtown has offered six events; including the Marathon,
University of North Texas Health Science Center Half Marathon, 50K Ultra
Marathon, 10K, Adults 5K and Cook Children's 5K.
"The volunteers, staff and board of directors of The Cowtown are thrilled
to know that so many more people are enjoying our weekend of healthy
activity," says Brian Hocker, president of the Cowtown board of directors.
"All of our registrants are supporting our C.A.L.F. program, or Children's'
Activities for Life and Fitness, which awards funding and running shoes to
area school children."
Numerous records for the courses beginning and ending at the Will Rogers
Memorial Center were also broken over the weekend. New course record
holders include:
Ultra Marathon Female –Kelley Aviles, Lewisville, TX with a time of 4:00:40
Ultra Marathon Male –Koby Styles, Holliday, TX with a time of 3:18:18
Marathon Female –Beth Cooper, Oklahoma City, OK with a time of 2:55:25
Marathon Male –Kolin Styles, Weatherford, TX with a time of 2:37:53
Half Marathon Female –Vanessa Kelley, Keller, TX with a time of 1:24:30
Half Marathon Male –Steven Sawyer, Ada, OK with a time of 1:09:27
10K Male –Logan Sherman,Dallas, Texas with a time of 31:17
Cook Children's 5K –Robert Torres, Ardmore, OK with a time of 17:03
The Cowtown emphasizes the importance of good physical fitness in the
community by working with local schools and community centers in teaching
proper running, training and nutrition to area youth in preparation for
participating in The Cowtown as well as a lifetime of fitness. The Cowtown
awarded funds and New Balance running shoes to over 1,400 children for this
year's The Cowtown.
Established in 1979, The Cowtown races are presented by the University of
North Texas Health Science Center, Chase, HCA North Texas, MillerCoors,
Star-Telegram, NBC 5, The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and
RadioShack. New to The Cowtown, Cook Children's has joined on as the title
sponsor of the Kids 5K event now named The Cowtown Cook Children's 5K.
