FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Edinburgh Marathon Festival To Feature In Exclusive STV Documentary
The Edinburgh Marathon Festival and STV have teamed up to bring viewers an
exclusive peak time documentary, looking at six inspirational runners'
stories and featuring footage from the race itself. Everyone's A Winner
will air on STV at 7.30pm on Monday 24 May.
Presented by TV and radio presenter, Bryan Burnett, Everyone's A Winner
will feature interviews with some of the participants, all of whom are
running to raise money for charity and have their own special reasons for
taking part in what has truly become a great community event.
The following journeys will be followed during the documentary:
-A team of nine friends from Edinburgh running for Alzheimer's Scotland,
after two of their grandparents were affected by the condition.
-A mother from Edinburgh who is running to raise money for research into
Fragile X, a disease her five year old son suffers from.
-A fire station manager from Faslane, whose father survived cancer five
years ago and whose mother has recently been diagnosed with stomach cancer.
- A distillery manager from Stirling who is running his first marathon to
raise money for MS Scotland, following the recent sad loss of his brother
to the disease.
-An ex-army officer who has suffered from several brain conditions, which
have left him partially sighted.
-An Edinburgh based rookie runner who is raising money to send a player to
the Homeless World Cup in Brazil.
Now established as Scotland's biggest running event, the festival has this
year attracted a record 23,500 entries for the Edinburgh Marathon, Scottish
Half Marathon and Hairy Haggis Team Relay, with every runner having his or
her own reasons for taking part.
Everyone's a Winner will use seven camera crews, including two motorcycle
cameras and an aerial unit, to capture the feel, buzz and excitement of the
event. The human interest stories throughout the programme will tell
stories which are sure to touch and resonate with runners and non-runners
alike.
Elizabeth Partyka, Channel Controller at STV, said: "We're delighted to
dedicate a prime time slot to what is one of Scotland's most exciting and
largest events. We know that viewers will really relate to many of the
stories featured in the programme; and can enjoy some fast-paced action
from the race itself."
Neil Kilgour, Race Director of the Edinburgh Marathon, welcomed the
broadcaster's involvement as the latest evidence of how the festival is
growing in stature.
"The popularity of this magnificent community event has grown year on year
and we are delighted that the extraordinary atmosphere that it generates
will be shared with the whole country thanks to STV," he said.
"Our runners raise more than £3 million for our 298 affiliated charities
every year, while the weekend provides a huge boost to the local economy
with an economic impact of well over £10 million to Edinburgh and the
surrounding area.
"More than anything, though, it is about the human stories of those taking
part for a huge variety of reasons and we are very much looking forward to
that being reflected when Everyone's a Winner is shown."
Everyone's A Winner is a Cut Mustard TV production for STV. The producer
is Simon Laidlaw.
