FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New Sports Agency Formed To Represent Track & Field Athletes
Newly certified USATF and IAAF athlete representative Christopher Mengel
has formed a sports agency, Elite Runner Management LLC, to represent elite
track and field athletes. The mission of the agency is to empower athletes
to achieve their personal best.
Mengel, an attorney with offices in metropolitan Detroit, combines more
than 30 years of practicing law with an avocation for long distance
running. He took the exam to become an agent at USATF's 2012 annual
meeting in Daytona Beach. Mengel will use his new position to advocate on
behalf of elite athletes. "For far too long, these talented and gifted
athletes have gotten the short end of the stick," he said. "Unfortunately,
being the best on the track or on the roads does not pay your rent or
provide you with medical insurance. My goal is to use my training,
education, and experience as a lawyer to represent and negotiate deals on
behalf of my clients which will provide them with the necessities of life
so that they can concentrate on what they do best: to train and to
perform."
Along with the formation of Elite Runner Management, Mengel also announced
the signing of the agency's first two elite athletes: Luke Humphrey, a 2:14
marathoner, long time member of the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project, and
author of the book Hansons Marathon Method - A Renegade Path to Your
Fastest Marathon (2012 Velopress); and Tim Young of Fredericksburg,
Virginia, a 1:04 half-marathoner and two time winner and course record
holder of the Marine Corps Historic Half Marathon.
