The Mississippi Blues Marathon in Jackson, Miss. and the BankTrust First
Light Marathon in Mobile, Ala. Team Up Back2Back in
January for a Marathon Weekend!
The 4th annual Mississippi Blues Marathon will take place on Saturday,
January 8, 2011, followed by the 10th annual BankTrust First Light Marathon
on Sunday, January 9, 2011. Interested runners are encouraged to
participate in both events and will receive a 20 percent discount on entry
fees, as well as special recognition and awards.
Both events offer challenging courses for runners, featuring full marathon,
half marathon, five-person relay team, fun run, and wheelchair divisions.
The Mississippi Blues Marathon & Half-Marathon will pay tribute to The
King at the 2011 event, which will be held on Elvis' birthday. Runners and
spectators will enjoy classic Elvis Presley music and entertainment, as
well as birthday cake at the finish line. Proceeds from the race benefit
the Mississippi Blues Commission, which works to promote and preserve the
state's Blues heritage.
"We're excited to partner with the First Light Marathon for a weekend of
back to back premier racing events, highlighting two very notable tourist
destinations in the south," said John Sewell, Director of Corporate
Communications with Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi, the title
sponsor of the Mississippi Blues Marathon & Half-Marathon. "Runners can
celebrate the King's birthday in Jackson and wrap up the weekend with a run
along the Gulf Coast."

O'Malley, Director of L'Arche Mobile and race director of the BankTrust
First Light Marathon. "Last year we had a number of people that
participated in both events. This year both races wanted to recognize those

The BankTrust First Light Marathon, one of Mobile's premier racing events,
winds through the city's historic neighborhoods. Proceeds support L'Arche
Mobile, which provides services, resources and support for people with
intellectual disabilities.
