New Design Selected for Official Poster of the
2009 ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon
ATLANTA, Feb. 19, 2009 – A new design was selected for the official poster
of the 2009 ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon. The selected design was
the work of SCAD student Michael Albuquerque, 27, from Recife, Brazil, who
was honored last year when his design was selected for the 2008 race in the
annual Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) contest. This year's
selected design is a photo montage delivered in an image of a runner in
full stride.
A high-resolution of the selected design is available:

The design was selected by SCAD officials and representatives from the race
organizers, US Road Sports & Entertainment of Georgia with input from the
race's title sponsor ING. "It's a gift to us as a race and to each of the
runners to have this design as part of our official look for 2009," said
Michael Hughes, race director, ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon. "To
have Michael [Albuquerque] be selected for a second year is a testament to
his ability to bring a fresh, unique and artistic perspective to the race."
The selected design will become the Official 2009 ING Georgia Marathon &
Half Marathon Participant Poster given to each of the estimated 15,000
racers expected to run on Sunday, March 29. Other finalists included: Dean
Chung, 23 of Alpharetta, Ga. who partnered with Ailin Yun, 23, of
Alpharetta, Ga.; Yoonae Goh, 35 from Seoul, South Korea; Llisa Seegers, 30,
from Pylesville, Md.; and Joseph Veazey, 21 of Lilburn, Ga.
The unique design contest for SCAD graphic artists and designers, working
alone or in teams, puts them through the paces of their own "half
marathon." Each contestant had 13 hours and one minute (symbolic of the
13.1 miles that half marathoners will complete) to complete and submit a
design as they cross the finish line. The submitted designs were judged by
a panel consisting of representatives from ING Americas, SCAD and race
staff from US Road Sports & Entertainment of Georgia. The 15,000
participant posters will be produced by race sponsor, Graphics Central, in
Atlanta, Ga.
