Local Celebrities Including St. Louis CArdinals Manager Mike Matheny,
Mayor Francis Slay, Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales and
Crown Candy Kitchen Among the Featured
ST. LOUIS, (MO) – February 7, 2013 - What do a major league baseball
manager, the mayor of the Gateway city and a celebrity spokeshorse for the
King of Beers have in common? Each one is a beloved fixture in St. Louis
culture and featured in a new video campaign for GO! St. Louis, a local
non-profit organization that presents fitness events and programs,
including the popular GO! St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend.
St. Louis Cardinals Manager Mike Matheny, The Honorable Francis Slay, Jake
the Anheuser-Busch Clydesdale, The Very Rev. Mike Kinman, Dean of Christ
Church Cathedral, The Loop's Joe Edwards, Forest Park Forever's Lesley
Hoffarth, GO! St. Louis President Nancy Lieberman, Olympian Way and Crown
Candy Kitchen are featured as St. Louis Originals in a special video series
produced by the organization to highlight the event as an original, along
with the people, places and companies that make the St. Louis community
unique.
"The St. Louis Originals theme was introduced this year to showcase how
proud we are to call St. Louis home, and to celebrate all of the great
things that make our city special," says Nancy Lieberman, GO! St. Louis
President." "This course is a 26.2 mile tour of the city's rich history –
from views of the famed Gateway Arch, to the Clydesdales at Anheuser-Busch,
to Busch Stadium, to the fun Delmar Loop area, and all of the points
in-between."
The exciting new video series catches St. Louis Cardinals Manager Mike
Matheny for a locker room chat at Busch Stadium; takes viewers on a private
tour of the historic Anheuser-Busch stables and dishes with the man behind
the vibrant, distinctly St. Louis, Delmar Loop. The videos can be found on
GO! St. Louis' YouTube channel.
The video campaign is part of a larger St. Louis Originals theme of the
13th Annual GO! St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend on April 6 & 7
and was inspired by the people, places and history along the course that
make St. Louis a great place to live, visit and run. Participants will get
to experience the famous Ted Drewes frozen custard, prepared at the
historic Route 66 landmark location, sandwiched between two of Dad's Cookie
Company's famous Oatmeal Cookies, both St. Louis originals. Crown Candy
Kitchen, a St. Louis institution for 100 years, will donate more than 200
commemorative chocolate bars, as age group prizes for winners of the "Holy
Hill", a 2-mile stretch of Olive between miles six and eight.
The GO! St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend is Missouri's largest
fitness event and attracts more than 25,000 participants and 50,000
spectators to St. Louis each spring with a weekend of events for all ages
and abilities. Activities include full and half marathons, marathon relay,
5k run/walk, children's fun runs and a mature mile. The marathon course
winds through some of St. Louis' most famous attractions and interesting
neighborhoods.
