Press Release - Gold Coast Airport Marathon - 5/26/11

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Gold Coast Airport Marathon Team Entries Closing 1 June

With less than six weeks until race weekend, the Gold Coast Airport
Marathon countdown is well and truly on.

One popular feature of the annual event is team participation.

Southern Cross University will be one of the larger teams participating in
the Gold Coast Airport Marathon in the corporate category with more than 70
members already registered.

Team manager Dave Graham said the team was made up of Southern Cross
University staff, students and alumni from each of the three campuses in
Lismore, Coffs Harbour and the Gold Coast.

"It's great to see all areas of our university are well-represented in the
Gold Coast Airport Marathon," he said.

"I think it's important that our team members feel like part of a bigger
unit, so that they can take ownership of the team and enjoy this great
event together."

Most Southern Cross University team members will run in the Southern Cross
University 10km Run but some will contest the 21.1km ASICS Half Marathon or
42.195km Gold Coast Airport Marathon.

Dave said being part of a team had many benefits, regardless of which event
team members chose to run in.

"Running is usually a very individual sport so it's nice to bring it back
to something you can do in a team," he said.

"We'll get together before the event so that everyone can look out for each
other on the course.

"We've also organised a healthy breakfast and Southern Cross University
osteopathy students will be giving massages in our tent in the Fitness
First TeamZone after the races."

More than 100 teams have so far registered for the Gold Coast Airport
Marathon as a corporate team, fitness team or running and social group.

Other local teams entered in the Gold Coast Airport Marathon include Gold
Coast Airport, Queensland Health, Griffith Business School Alumni Network,
Ray White Broadbeach and Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Green Guardian 100
Club.

Gold Coast Airport Marathon teams generate awareness for their company or
group, go in the running to win awesome prizes and awards, and receive a
10% discount on entry fees.

Team members also enjoy entry into the Fitness First TeamZone, a dedicated
area for teams to meet and celebrate post-race with the opportunity to book
tents and catering.

Gold Coast Airport Marathon team entries and Fitness First TeamZone tent
and catering packages must be finalised by Wednesday 1 June.

Staged annually on the first weekend in July, the 33rd Gold Coast Airport
Marathon is set to motivate and challenge more than 25,000 runners from all
over Australia and the world.

It will feature an event for all ages and abilities, including the 42.195km
Gold Coast Airport Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon, Wheelchair Half Marathon,
Southern Cross University 10km Run, Queensland Health 5km Challenge and
Junior Dash 4km and 2km races.

The Gold Coast Airport Marathon, organised by Events Queensland Gold Coast,
has won the Best Major Event/Festival at the Queensland Tourism Awards for
the past two years.

The Gold Coast Airport Marathon is supporting the Gold Coast's bid to host
the 2018 Commonwealth Games. This event will reinforce the city's
capabilities to host major events and showcase to the world the wonderful
and diverse attractions the Gold Coast has to offer.
