ING Hartford Marathon Earns Recognition From
Road Runners Club of America for Second Straight Year
September 2010, Glastonbury, CT - The Hartford Marathon Foundation's
signature event, the ING Hartford Marathon, has been recognized by the Road
Runners Club of America (RRCA) for the second year in a row. Earning the
State Championship title by RRCA, the ING Hartford Marathon reinforces its
commitment to providing a safe and enjoyable event for runners, spectators
and volunteers.
This recognition comes as the ING Hartford Marathon gears up for its 17th
annual race on October 9, 2010. New this year, the Marathon and Half
Marathon courses will run separately to accommodate more participants in
the increasingly popular events, which have grown by the thousands since
the Hartford Marathon Foundation's inception in 1994. The new routes will
help with traffic flow and minimize road and street closures.
A State Championship designation communicates to athletes and the community
that the ING Hartford Marathon follows approved guidelines set forth by the
RRCA and excels in providing events and services for participants. Earning
this status for the second time further catapults the ING Hartford Marathon
to recruit top performing elite runners, partner with new sponsors and
charity organizations and improve civic support.
Always on the forefront of sustainability, the eco-friendly ING Hartford
Marathon will be completely paperless for walk-in registration and
results-viewing at the end of the race, saving more than 1,000 pieces of
paper. Additionally, the Marathon will take advantage of technology,
allowing runners to utilize their social network to post live race updates
and track their progress.
"We're thrilled to earn this distinction from RRCA as we always strive to
go above and beyond for our athletes, volunteers and spectators and provide
the best race day experience," said Beth Shluger, race director of the ING
Hartford Marathon. "Implementing new courses and offering the latest in
eco-friendly initiatives and race-day technology is indicative of our
dedication to hosting State Championship status events."
The 17th running of the ING Hartford Marathon will take place October 9,
2010 in Bushnell Park offering kid running events, 5K, Half Marathon and
Marathon races.
