Michael Wardian Wins 2010 ING Hartford Marathon,
Jeannette Faber Wins Second Straight Women's Marathon
HARTFORD, OCTOBER 9, 2010 – The ING Hartford Marathon stepped off its 17th
annual event with more than 12,000 participants in the marathon,
half-marathon and 5K races. A brand new half marathon course accommodated
a significant increase in runners in that race, accounting for about 6,000
participants. With the expansion of the "New England's Finest" Elite
Program, now in its third year, multiple place finishers represented the
New England and New York areas. Recognized as a State Championship Race by
Road Runner's Club of America, the ING Hartford Marathon lived up to its
"Greenest Road Race in America" reputation with expanded efforts to reduce
waste and achieve sustainability.
In the closest finish in 17 years, Michael Wardian, of Arlington, VA, won
the marathon, crossing the finish line in 2:24:38. In the women's race,
New England's Finest Elite runner Jeannette Faber of Somerville, MA, took
first place for the second straight year, winning with a time of 2:41:06.

In the 13.1 mile men's half marathon, 2009 men's runner-up Darese Deniboba
of Bronx, NY, took first place with a time of 1:05:24. New England Finest
Elite runner Lucas Meyer of Ridgefield, CT, took second place with a time
of 1:06:59. With a time of 1:07:48, Mathew Kiplagat of Irvington, NY, took
third place.
New England's Finest Elite runners came in strong with all three women's
place finishers in the women's half marathon. Kim Smith of Providence, RI,
set a new course record coming in at 1:11:37. Heather Cappello, of
Arlington, MA, came in second with a time of 1:15:04. With a time of
1:19:40, Katie Twarog of Providence, RI, came in third.
In the 5K men's race, New Paltz, NY runner Harbert Okuti took first place
and set a course record of 14:01. Placing second with a time of 14:44 was
Ruslan Savchuk of Wethersfield, CT. With a time of 15:23, Chris McCormack
of Manchester, CT, came in third.
Leading a sweep of CT-The winner of the women's 5K was Lindsay Holmes of
Middletown, CT, with a time of 18:33. Kaelin Baker, a 14-year-old from
Farmington, CT, came in second with a time of 19:26. With a time of 19:45
to win third place was Pamela Karkut of Farmington, CT.
