FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
2013 Race Registrations Open June 6th
Chevron Houston Marathon Race Weekend
Will Feature 5K Fun Run Move to Saturday
HOUSTON (May 24, 2012) - In conjunction with the opening of race
registration for the 2013 Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half
Marathon on Wednesday, June 6, the Houston Marathon Committee will celebrate
National Running Day at Memorial Park from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
The opening of the lottery coincides with this coast-to-coast celebration of
the sport of running, which occurs annually on the first Wednesday of June.
The "party in the park," located near the tennis center, will feature music,
refreshments and giveaways including a drawing for five guaranteed race
entries, free National Running Day T-shirts (while supplies last), plus a
six-mile run at 6:00 pm led by Houston Marathon Committee staff members.

Race-day for the 41st annual Chevron Houston Marathon and the 12th annual
Aramco Houston Half Marathon is Sunday, January 13. This year's event
features a record participant-cap of 25,000 runners for the marathon
(13,000) and the half marathon (12,000).
New to the 2013 event, the traditional Sunday 5K Fun Run will now be
conducted on Saturday, January 12. The annual family-friendly run will be
capped at 5,000 runners, and registration for the 5K will also begin on June
6 and remain open until the participant limit is reached.
"In our continuous effort to enhance the participant experience for the
Chevron Houston Marathon race weekend, the move of the 5K creates more
opportunities for runners to enjoy the races," stated Wade Morehead, HMC
Executive Director. "There are numerous benefits to conducting the races
over two days, as it expands race weekend and affords an opportunity for
more runners to participate in a less-crowded environment."
Entry fees will not be increased this year, remaining at $125 for the full
and $105 for the half. Participant selections for the Chevron Houston
Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon will be formally announced by
Monday, June 25. Registration for the 5K fun run will remain open until the
cap is reached. The entry fee is $25 through June 30th, $30 from July 1st
to October 31st, and $35 from November 1st to January 6th. If entries are
still available, the EXPO registration price will be $40.
Also new this year, the Chevron Houston Marathon's Run for a Reason Kickoff
Party has a new date. The Houston Marathon Committee and its 60
participating Run for a Reason official charities kick-off the training
season with its celebration on Saturday, June 30th from 7:00 am to 11:00 am
on the south side of Memorial Park. Free "In-Training" shirts will be
available for the first 2,000 visitors. Runners can learn more about how to
obtain a guaranteed race entry, how to fundraise for local charities, and
how to find the ideal running club to help with training. Please visit
