Races sell-out for eighth consecutive year;
Run For A Reason charity race entries available
HOUSTON - (June 25, 2012) - The Houston Marathon Committee has announced
the participants selected for the 2013 Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco
Houston Half Marathon. Early race registration and the 15-day general
lottery registration period for both races attracted 28,000 runners vying
for a spot in the 25,000 participant field.
All lottery registrants were notified via email of their registration
status June 22-25. Runners may also verify the result of their registration
online at ChevronHoustonMarathon.com.
Race-day for the 41st Chevron Houston Marathon and the 12th Aramco Houston
Half Marathon is Sunday, January 13. The Houston Marathon Committee
increased its participant cap by 1,000 participants to 25,000; the
half-marathon field increased to 12,000 and the marathon maintained a cap
of 13,000.
"The registration cap for the Chevron Houston Marathon and the Aramco
Houston Half Marathon has increased by 10,000 runners since 2007, nearly
doubling the size of the event," stated HMC Executive Director Wade
Morehead. "The result is a race weekend that annually generates over $50
million in economic impact, raises over $2 million for local charities, and
garnered a Silver Certification for sustainability efforts by the Council
of Responsible Sport. Our Committee, Volunteers, and Civic Partners look
forward to hosting an exciting weekend experience for our runners in
January 2013."
For the second consecutive year, the early registration period in May was
offered for qualified runners to receive a guaranteed race entry. This
group included runners who met new time qualification standards for the
marathon and half-marathon races, runners who have completed five or more
Houston Marathons, race registrants who deferred in 2012, "third time's a
charm" qualifiers who were not selected the first two years, and members
designated by the Houston Area Road Runner Association (HARRA).
Runners can still enter the 2013 marathon and half marathon races through
the Chevron Houston Marathon's Run for a Reason charity program. Charity
entries are limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Details about how to register can be found at RunforaReasonHouston.org.
The Run for a Reason Kickoff Party has a new date. The Houston Marathon
