FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TED METELLUS SUCCEEDS ROBERT POZO AS RACE DIRECTOR,
GLOBAL RECOGNITION SOUGHT FOR MIAMI
RACE DIRECTOR BRINGS NEW YORK CITY
EXPERIENCE AND EXPECTATIONS TO SHAPE MIAMI RUNNING COMMUNITY
MIAMI (April 16, 2008) - The initial dream shared by co-founders Frankie
Ruiz, Gaby Pozo and Robert Pozo to establish a world-class marathon in
South Florida came true with the beginning of a world-class marathon in
2003. The subsequent objective of creating and fostering a large running
community in Miami was met and expanded over six years through the
introduction and growth of local races. Following a year of increased
participation in all 15 events produced or owned by PR Racing, the company
is poised for a new phase of growth and support for the South Florida
participant sport community with the introduction of a new race director.
As of early April, Ted Metellus has officially joined the company,
succeeding Robert Pozo as Race Director of the ING Miami Marathon and Half
Marathon®.
With future expectations set on matching the success of the ING New York
City Marathon, PR Racing has tapped into Metellus, a candidate with
tremendous marketing and logistics experience. At 34, Metellus, a New York
native, comes to Miami with not only experience at one of the largest
marathons in the world, but an incredible amount of positive energy and
charisma to carry the future plans of running programs and events managed
by PR Racing. As an Event Manager with the New York Road Runners, Metellus
worked under the direction of former New York Road Runners CEO and
President Allan Steinfeld and his successor Mary Wittenberg, acquiring
skills and knowledge from some of the most notable and inspirational
leaders in the running industry. Most recently, Metellus served as Event
Manager with Eventage Event Production based in New York City and New
Jersey, a highly regarded company specializing in branding, promotion, and
public events. Metellus' event background coupled with a Bachelor of Arts
in Public Relations from Oswego State University in New York established
him as the perfect fit for both the professional and friendly culture of PR
Racing with the experience needed to produce events in an urban setting
like Miami.
In his new role, Metellus' ideals will take further shape after meeting
local runners, leaders, sponsors and other members of the community. One
thing Metellus believes in implanting into his staff and events is creating
lasting impressions through quality. "In the event world, we are perceived
to be as good as our last event," Metellus says, "and that means we need to
provide the highest quality event to make great and lasting impressions
after each and every race." For PR Racing, this approach will help to
continue the momentum gained from the 2007-2008 season, which saw more than
30,000 registered participants at events, including 13,000at the 2008 ING
Miami Marathon and Half Marathon®.
"Over the years, we have made additions to our family to help us grow and
become a stronger and community focused company," co-founder Frankie Ruiz
said. "ING joined our family and brought the marathon to new heights while
Blue Cross and Blue Shield helped us create a full running season. We are
proud to bring in a new leader to usher in a healthy future for our company
and the community."
Metellus, who began the first week of April, plans to put a lot of his
energy into the company, taking PR Racing to a new level within the
participant sports industry globally while further establishing the company
as South Florida's top production and race management organization.
"PR Racing's short history is very successful because we have stayed true
to our original goals and we have maintained our commitment to the
community we serve," former Race Director and company co-founder Robert
Pozo said. "We are now reemphasizing our goals and commitments by bringing
in a fresh face with great experience and potential, someone who will help
us make Miami the top running destination in the world.
Robert Pozo, former Race Director, has joined parent company U.S. Road
Sports and Entertainment Group as Executive Race Director and VP of
Business Development. Gaby Pozo, Frankie Ruiz, Danny Elfenbein and the
remainder of the staff at PR Racing will remain in tact as the company
moves forward.
