FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Expo, LA Big 5K and Carbo-Load Highlight Honda LA Marathon Weekend
Full slate of activities for children and adults on tap for March 18-19
LOS ANGELES, March 13, 2011 – Whether you're running in this year's Honda
LA Marathon presented by K-Swiss, thinking about running in next year's
race, or just know someone who is, there will be plenty to see and do on
the weekend leading up to the race.
The main event will be the Marathon Expo, to be held at Dodger Stadium on
Friday and Saturday, March 18-19, with more than 100 exhibitors, now
covering more than four acres in Lot 6, behind centerfield.
On view will be a full range of health and fitness products, plus live
entertainment on both days, and admission and parking will be free.
Especially noteworthy:
-Honda will unveil its specially-decorated Odyssey Touring Elite Minivans
sporting the names of 16,184 Marathon runners – in alphabetical order – who
registered by February 11.
-K-Swiss will be featuring its new Kwicky Blade Light line, an innovative,
next-generation shoe that features a new moisture management system called
"Ion Masking," absorbing no water so that the shoe is always light, dry and
clean. The Blade-Light technology provides impact protection through a
series of "blades" aligned to the angle of impact, step after step.
-CLIF BAR will be passing out Cheer Cards at our booth at the Expo. The
Cheer Cards are for fans to decorate and personalize for their favorite
runners and to use as a sign during the race to cheer their runners on.
Runners will be able to sign up for raceday pace groups; the Clif Bar
Marathon Pace Team will be leading groups aiming for finish times from 3:10
to 5:30.
-Don Francisco's will offer coffee sampling and ask runners to write "What
inspired them to run in this year's Marathon" on the Don Francisco's
Inspiration Board.
-Michelob ULTRA will be hosting the entertainment stage on both days of the
Expo.
Attendees will be able to pick up their copy of the race's Official Runner
and Spectator Guide, produced in cooperation with the Santa Monica Daily
Press.
Expo hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 18 and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
on Saturday, March 19.
On Saturday morning, the LA Big 5K will be held at 8:15 a.m., preceded at
7:55 a.m. by the completion of the unique KiDS MARATHON coordinated by New
Zealand Olympic 1500 m medalist Rod Dixon.
The LA Big 5K will start and finish close to the start line for the
Marathon, and cover a scenic course in the Elysian Park area. It's a fun
way to get ready for the Marathon itself, or to enjoy a shorter run.
Registration is $35 and will be available at Expo and on Saturday morning
beginning at 6:30 a.m.
The remarkable KiDS MARATHON program brought some 11,000 elementary-school
students of ages 7-12 into running over an eight-week program in which they
covered 25 miles in total. Approximately 3,500 youngsters will complete
their "marathon" by running 1.2 miles over the LA Big 5K course.
On Saturday evening at 5 p.m., the traditional pre-race Carbo-Load dinner
will be held at the new Hard Rock Café in the Hollywood & Highland complex.
"Rockin' & Runnin' 2011" will feature a carefully-selected choice of
pre-Marathon entrees, and attendees will be prepped for the race with
advice from K-Swiss athletes Josh Cox – the American 50 km record holder –
and Mirinda Carfrae – the 2010 Ironman Triathlon Women's World Champion –
on reaching the goal of finishing the marathon.
"There's so much more than a marathon going on Friday and Saturday before
the race," noted LA MARATHON LLC chief operating officer Nick Curl. "The
Expo, LA Big 5K and Rockin' & Runnin' 2011 dinner give our runners, our
future runners, friends and family and anyone who is interested in fitness
a fun way to find out more about running, and about getting ready for the
Honda LA Marathon on March 20."
