FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
29th Annual Lakefront Marathon hits Milwaukee's Lakefront October 4
MILWAUKEE (October 1, 2009) - The 29th annual Lakefront Marathon will debut
on Sunday, October 4, culminating a three-day celebration of distance
running in Milwaukee.
The increasing popular race filled to capacity in mid-May, and over the
weekend more than 3,000 runners will descend on Milwaukee to either
participate in the full 26.2 mile race or as a member of one of 90 relay
teams.
The 2009 race includes a two-day expo at the MSOE Kern Center, which will
feature keynote speakers Jamie and Lynn Parks, a coupled featured on
Discovery Channel's documentary Marathon Love. They will share their story
of inspiration, love and running together multiple times at the expo, and
also participate in the relay run.
Race director Kris Hinrichs is proud to welcome participants to Milwaukee
again this year, and hopes the community continues to support the event.
"For 29 years, the Lakefront Marathon has been all about runners, and I'm
proud to lead a group of more than 1,400 volunteers who put the runners
first," said Hinrichs, who enters her 10th year as race director. "Each
year we have more and more support from the community, and we can't wait to
see the streets filled with fans."
The Lakefront Marathon begins at 8:00 a.m. at Grafton High School, and will
wind along Milwaukee's North Shore area for 26.2 miles, finishing at
Veteran's Park in Milwaukee. The event annually contributes more than $3
million to the greater Milwaukee economy each fall. It will celebrate its
30th anniversary on October 3, 2010, when it will also be the Road Runners
Club of America national championship race.
