29th Lakefront Marathon Won By Milwaukee-Area Male, Chicago Area Female
MILWAUKEE (October 5, 2009) - On an ideal day for a marathon with
temperatures in the upper 40s, Ryan Meissen, 31, of Mukwonago, Wis., won
the 2009 Lakefront Marathon, finishing the 26.2 mile course in two hours,
twenty four minutes and fifty three seconds. Meissen's winning time was
nearly four minutes faster than the 2008 winner and also nearly four
minutes faster than his fellow training partner Aaron Nodolf, 31, of
Menomonee Falls, Wis., who finished at 2:28:49. Austin Johnson, from
Madison, finished third with a time of 2:33:44.
On the women's side, 27 year-old Jennifer Goebel from Lombard, Ill. held
off two-time defending champion Corina Canitz, 42, of Brookfield, for the
title. Goebel finished in 3:02:53, while Canitz crossed the line at
3:04:21. Katyln Regan, of Chicago, finished third 3:05:39.
Rick Stefanovic, 47, of Milwaukee, won the men's master's division, with a
time of 2:49:10, and J. Elizabeth Terveer, 46, of Whitefish Bay, Wisc., was
the female master's winner.
Nearly 1,900 runners finished the 26.2-mile race from Grafton to
Milwaukee's Lakefront Marathon.
The Lakefront Marathon is the premiere event of the Badgerland Striders
racing club, and annually fills hotels, restaurants and the streets of
