   6th Annual Lewis & Clark Marathon and Half Marathon Outgrows Course

St. Charles, Missouri — On Sunday, September 16th, the participants in the 
sixth annual Lewis & Clark Marathon and Half Marathon 
(www.fleetfeetstl.com/lewisandclark) will explore new territory as they run 
from St. Louis County to St. Charles. Participants of the event, hosted by 
FLEET FEET Sports and presented by New Balance, include a marathon (26.2 
miles) and half marathon (13.1 miles).  Both races will start at the 
Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Riverport and finish at the feet of the 
Lewis and Clark statue in historic St. Charles.

The Lewis & Clark event has grown quickly over its short history and is on 
pace to become the 3rd largest timed running race in the state this year.  
"This event has steadily developed into one of the premier races in the 
region", reports race founder and FLEET FEET Sports owner, David Spetnagel.  
"Last year we were physically limited by our own course to 3800 entrants 
and had to turn away hundreds of athletes in the weeks leading up to the 
race.  This year, a new course will allow us to accept all interested 
athletes and provide them with a more scenic and faster course."

Contestants will travel from the Riverport area, north through Earth City 
and cross over the Missouri river on Highway 370, enjoying a tremendous 
view of the St. Charles riverfront while they do so.  After reaching the 
western shore of the Missouri, participants will head north and loop 
through both open and wooded sections of Missouri river floodplain. 
Finally, they will head south through historic Frenchtown to St. Charles' 
Frontier Park, where the half marathoners will finish and the marathoners 
will transfer to the Katy Trail for an out-and-back final 13.1 miles.

Last year, ultramarathoner Dean Karnazes used the marathon to kick off his 
ultimately successful attempt to run 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 days 
(www.endurance50.com).  This year, the event will serve as the kickoff 
event for Prevention Magazine's Team Prevention race series 
(www.prevention.com/walking).  As the first of seven races making up the 
Team Prevention program, 350 walkers will be coming from across the country 
to compete.

As was the case in 2005 and 2006, a portion of the proceeds from the 2007 
event will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the St. Charles 
Humane Society.
