FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Little Rock Marathon Training Meeting Tonight
LITTLE ROCK, AR (September 9, 2008) – An informational meeting for the 2009
season of the Little Rock Marathon Training Program is set for 6 p.m. this
evening in the Adult Leisure Center at 6401 West 12th Street, Little Rock.
Coaches will discuss gear and "Little Steps Equal Big Finishes," which is a
free running and walking program designed to benefit individuals training
for the Little Rock Marathon or companion races on March 15, 2009. The 2009
program offers participants an opportunity to talk with professionals
regarding nutrition, training tips, injury prevention and education.
"Participation in the training program is up eight percent as compared to
this time last year," Gina Marchese Pharis, co-executive director of the
Little Rock Marathon said. "Each year we successfully train hundreds of
people who do not consider themselves athletic to finish a marathon and our
coaches are the reason our training program is considered one of the best
in the industry."
"Tom and Hobbit Singleton have built our training program from a few
participants the first year to a program that will see almost a two
thousand athletes at its completion next March," said Pharis.
The Singletons, as well as Kathryn Wishard of Benton (Saline County Coach)
are the only RRCA certified coaches in Arkansas.
Other training programs are offered in Fayetteville, El Dorado, Camden and
Fort Smith.
Participants may register for the free training program online at
www.littlerockmarathon.com/training. Training schedules, which includes
weekly Saturday morning runs, may also be found on the race website.
