Little Rock Marathon Winners
Thorvilson Captures Third Consecutive Win
A Kenya native who now lives in Toluca, Mexico has won the men's division
in today's ninth-annual Little Rock Marathon.
Mark Chepsis, age 34, won with a time of 2:24:07. Chepsis said, "I am very
pleased to win. I felt very good on this run."
Coming in second in the men's division was 31-year-old Julius Kosgei with a
time of 2:29:17. Kosgei, a Kenya native, now lives in Searcy, Ark. Placing
third was Matthew Fecht, age 27, of Warren, Mich.
It's a 'three-peat' for Little Rock's own Leah Thorvilson! For the third
year in a row, Thorvilson, age 32, won the women's division with a time of
2:45:51.
When asked about her third victory, Thorvilson, said with a laugh, "It
hurts!" She added that, "this was the worst Little Rock Marathon ever for
me. I did something to my foot, then at about ten miles, it loosened up.
At mile twenty, second place was a lot closer than I thought. It made me
pretty nervous. I saw the finish line and it was all I could do to sprint."
Thorvilson did not beat her best Little Rock Marathon time of 2:44:23 in
2009.
Placing second in the women's division was Uli Bromme, age 27, of Boulder,
Colo., with a time of 2:47:52. Third was Donna Palisca, age 33, of
Fayetteville, North Carolina.
