FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SA Recycling Joins the 2009 Long Beach International City Bank Marathon
To Help Make the Event Green
SA will provide 'Green Team' and Recycling Bins to help participants
recycle more than 35,000 plastic containers, bottles as well as many other
recyclables.
LONG BEACH, CA – SA Recycling has joined forces with the International City
Bank Marathon to help lessen the impact on the environment and reduce the
carbon footprint of the event. More than 100 staff will make up the SA
Recycling “Green Team,” helping participants to recycle their water bottles
and other recyclables. There will be recycle bins located in and around
the Finish Line Festival.
Celebrating its 25th Anniversary, the Long Beach International City Bank
Marathon and Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, Oct. 11. More than
20,000 participants are expected to participate in the Marathon, Half
Marathon, Bike Tour, Run Forrest Run 5K and Kids 1 Mile Fun Run.
As a scrap metal recycler, SA is making a significant difference in
reducing the global carbon footprint. There is a 90% reduction of
greenhouse gases when recycling steel vs. mining ore. As leading innovators
in the recycling industry, SA has come up with ways to further its
environmental impact. SA uses state-of-the-art air filtration, efficient
metal recovery systems, storm water management, and dust control systems.
In addition, SA Recycling plays a key part in eliminating hazardous
materials from landfills, which results in cleaner air and water for your
community.
“SA Recycling is pleased to be a part of such a historic event; 25 times in
the making. We are committed to recycling the race material to green the
race one-step at a time,” commented Regional Manager Moises Figueroa.
The Long Beach International City Bank Marathon event includes a Full
Marathon, Half Marathon, Marathon Bike Tour, the Bubba Gump Run Forrest Run
5K and the Kids 1-Mile Fun Run. All participants receive an event t-shirt,
a race goodie-bag and a unique commemorative Finisher's Medal. In a
continuing tradition, the Wheelchair Division will include Push Rim and
Hand Crank participants in the Full Marathon.
More than 45,000 are expected to attend the two-day Health & Fitness Expo
in Hall C at the Long Beach Convention Center on Fri., Oct. 9 (Noon-7 p.m.)
and Sat., Oct. 10 (9 a.m.-6 p.m.). SARecycling, among more than 100 other
exhibitors at the Expo – which is FREE to the public – will highlight the
benefits of recycling in everyday life. SA Recycling will be providing
information to participants regarding how they can recycle their scrap
metal and the importance of doing so. SA Recycling will also showcase how
the recycling will work on race day to ensure that the racers are able to
efficiently recycle their empty water bottles and other recyclables.
Participants can stop by the SA Recycling booth for a chance to win fun
giveaways.
On race day, 35,000 are expected at the Finish Line Festival on the Marina
Green on Shoreline Drive. The festival offers live music, food and fun,
and is a gathering place and viewing area for friends, family and guests of
all participants. Like the Expo, the festival is FREE to the public.
