12-12-12 Marathon of Sarasota Results
The 12-12-12 Marathon of Sarasota continued its numbers-centric event on
Wednesday, December 12th. Once again it was run in Whitaker-Gateway Park
along Sarasota Bay, but unlike 2011, the heat and humidity soared.
Temperatures hit 85 degrees with humidity at 90+%, causing the veteran
field to slow. Justin Gillette, 29, Goshen, IN, became a repeat Overall
Champion, backing up his 2011 victory. Unlike 2011 when cooler temps
prevailed, Justin's pace was 23+ minutes off his record pace as he clocked
a 2:57.39. Running second, nearly 25 minutes behind was Donnie Gillman,
47, Batavia, OH. Third overall was David Holmen, 51, from Eagan, MN.
The award for Female Champion went to Juli Goldstein, 35, Vero Beach, FL,
with a time of 3:53.32. The heat didn't phase the Floridan as she took 43
minutes off of her 2011 time. Second place in the female division went to
Susan Vogt, 51, Loveland, OH, in 4:19.42. Third place went to last year's
female runner-up, Stephanie Arango, 27, who completed the race in 4:26.24.
The 2013 version of the Marathon of Sarasota is set to take place on
11-12-13.
