Springfield, VA School to Receive Healthy School Award for 11th Year
Marine Corps Marathon to Host Ceremony at Lynbrook Elementary on March 2
QUANTICO, VA (March 1, 2011) - On Wednesday, March 2, the students of
Lynbrook Elementary School in Springfield, VA will celebrate their
award-winning accomplishment as they receive the Marine Corps Marathon
(MCM) Healthy School Award for the 11th consecutive year.
Lynbrook Elementary is one of five schools in Virginia to receive the award
for its participation in the Healthy Kids Fun Run, organized by the MCM on
October 30. Lynbrook registered 275 students, the largest total among 747
participating schools.
Upon receiving the Healthy School Award in the school gym, Lynbrook PE
teachers will "raise a banner" in celebration of their students'
accomplishments. The award will be presented during a school assembly
beginning at 1:30 p.m., in the school gym located at 5801 Backlick Road.
As part of the Healthy School Award, MCM sponsor Sodexo will present a
check for $1,000 to the school and provide healthy snacks for all of the
students, while the National Children's Museum, also a MCM sponsor, will
conduct its "Museum Without Walls" traveling program. U.S. Marines from
Marine Corps Base Quantico and Miles the Bulldog will engage the students
in PT exercises during the assembly.
The final of five Healthy School Awards will be presented to George Mason
Elementary School in Alexandria, VA on March 10.

annually by the Marine Corps Marathon. The 2011 Healthy Kids Fun Run will
be held on Saturday, Oct. 29 in Arlington, VA. Online registration will
