UPS Returns for Sixth Year to Support Marine Corps Marathon
Participants Logistics Experts Provide Essential Runner Service
QUANTICO, VA (Sept. 14, 2012) - Embodying their company slogan "We [heart]
Logistics," UPS will sponsor the 37th Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) providing
logistical support to all MCM and MCM10K runners by hosting the UPS Baggage
Drop Off and Pick Up.
"UPS is proud to again sponsor the Marine Corps Marathon," says Rosemary
Turner, President of UPS's Chesapeake District. "On race day, UPS will
supply volunteers, vehicles and the power of logistics to make a same-day
delivery for more than 35,000 runners. It's an honor to support our
military partners and all the participants of this great event."
Over 40 UPS baggage trucks will be deployed to support the MCM. The
majority will be located in Runners Village at Pentagon North parking lot
for marathoners with additional trucks on the National Mall for the MCM10K.
A UPS Baggage Sticker will be attached to all participant bibs and will
feature the runner's bib number and the assigned UPS truck to be utilized
for baggage drop off and pick up on event day. Runners will obtain their
bib in the Packet Pick-up area of the Health & Fitness Expo presented by GE
from Oct. 25-27 at the DC Armory.
On race day, runners affix the sticker to their bag to facilitate easy
identification. After finishing, MCM and MCM10K runners may pick up their
bag in the ample UPS Baggage area in the Finish Festival on Wilson Blvd. A
team of 180 UPS employee volunteers work throughout MCM Weekend to provide
top-notch customer service to quickly and easily reunite runners with their
personal belongings.
"The MCM's primary objective is to provide a world-class experience for
runners and ensure that every last detail is managed," says Rick Nealis,
MCM Director. "The partnership with UPS maximizes their expertise with
Marine Corps assistance for the benefit of the participants."
