Nearly 100,000 Expected to Attend MCM Health & Fitness Expo Presented by GE
Expo from Oct. 25-27 Highlights Latest
Fitness Apparel, Products and Technologies
QUANTICO, VA (Oct. 24, 2012) - On Thursday, October 25, the Marine Corps
Marathon (MCM) will open the spectacular Health & Fitness Expo presented by
GE. A special opening ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m. to kick off the
three-day extravaganza that is free and open to the public. The DC Armory
is located at 2001 E. Capitol Street SE Washington, D.C. with free parking
available outside the Armory.
The three-day Health & Fitness Expo includes more than 200 exhibitors
showcasing fitness products and equipment, offering samples and giveaways,
providing health screenings and first-hand access to health and fitness
experts. Making a special appearance at the Expo on Friday, Oct. 26 and
Saturday, Oct. 27 is 2012 Marathon Olympian Shalane Flanagan, part of
Nissan's Innovation for Endurance program.
The Health & Fitness Expo hours:
Thursday, Oct. 27 -- 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 28 -- 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 29 -- 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
All participants of the MCM and MCM10K will pick up their race day
materials during the three-day Expo, while participants of the Healthy Kids
Fun Run will pick up their runner's bibs and participant shirts on Oct. 25
and 26, just prior to their event held in Arlington, VA on Saturday, Oct.
27.
Each of the MCM running events is completely sold out with 43,600
registered to participate. All MCM and MCM10K participants must present
their E-Confirmation card and photo ID to pick up their runner's bib with
B-tag timing device and UPS baggage claim sticker, participant shirt, the
official race program "Salute" and MCM Weekend Guide.
Presenting sponsor, GE will showcase its healthymagination initiative
promoting overall health while featuring its ever-popular In-Body body mass
analyzer. Brooks, the apparel and shoe sponsor, will invite attendees to
shop the MCM Brooks store. Aetna will present its new fitness web
application called Aetna Everactive where visitors to the Aetna booth can
receive a promo for a complimentary race recovery plan, have a chance to
win premium fitness giveaways and a complimentary massage at the Expo.
The Nissan Innovation for Endurance experience will enable Expo attendees
to participate in a running challenge, design a Nissan T-shirt, take a
fitness test, enter a sweepstakes to win a Nissan car and have a chance to
experience the 100 percent electric Nissan LEAF, while the Nissan NEXT
Innovation Center enables visitors to test drive Nissan's most innovative
automobiles. Expo visitors will also enjoy stopping by New Skin(r), the
Exclusive Liquid Wound Care, Anti-Chafing/Anti-Blister Sponsor of the MCM,
to try out the product and win fun prizes and a chance to enter in the"Win
an iPad" sweepstakes! The Expo will also offer many more exciting
exhibitors and displays and live entertainment.
Runners in front of the line at the Expo at tomorrow's opening ceremony
will compete for the first of 37 extra special SuperSize goodie bags that
will be randomly distributed at MCM events throughout the weekend.
SuperSize goodie bag give-away times and locations will be posted on the
MCM Facebook page and/or Twitter. Some of the SuperSize goodie bags include
a pair of free running shoes from Brooks, gift cards from Dunkin Donuts and
DSW, cash cards from Geico, product from Clif Bar and GNC, event tickets
from the Washington International Horse Show and Comcast SportsNet, free
oil change from Jiffy Lube and LG's Intuition smartphone/tablet from
Verizon Wireless. Other participating partners include MarathonFoto,
Therapearl, Jack Black, Lasting Commemoratives, Aetna and Fond Memories.
All SuperSize bags also contain limited edition 37th MCM coins provided by
Warrior Chip.
Visitors to the Health & Fitness Expo can take the Metro via the blue or
orange lines to the Stadium/Armory station. Free parking is also available
in Lot #3 outside the DC Armory.
Stuff the Bus Challenge
The MCM is joining the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Campaign in its challenge
to "Stuff the Bus" full of toys for girls and boys. All attendees to the
Health & Fitness Expo can bring a new toy appropriate for girls or boy up
to age 15 with the goal to "Stuff the Bus" with plenty of goodies for the
holidays. U.S. Marines from Toys for Tots in Washington, DC will be at the
bus outside the front of the DC Armory collecting toys throughout the three
days the Expo is open to the public.
Voted the best marathon for families, the Marine Corps Marathon honors the
dedication, sportsmanship and patriotism of its participants. The 37th MCM
on Sunday, Oct. 28 is sponsored by Boeing, Brooks, Nissan, Aetna,
