Marine Corps Marathon Rocks The Classic Mock Neck Shirt Event Unveils New
Ultra-Lightweight, Moisture-Transfer Technical Shirt For All Participants
QUANTICO, VA (Oct. 15, 2013) - The Marine Corps Marathon debuts a more fit
and athletic look for the classic mock neck shirt that has been synonymous
with the event since 1997. Throughout MCM Weekend and long after, runners
will be "rockin' the mock" while donning a new technical long sleeve shirt
that keeps the body warm while transferring moisture away from the skin.
Though never intended for running, the traditional MCM participant shirt
uniquely has been a long sleeve mock neck shirt. Its design was to honor
similar attire in the law enforcement community rather than the more common
running event souvenir of a short sleeve technical T-shirt. Wearing the
mock neck shirt, though, after completing "The People's Marathon" has
become a badge of honor for runners on every continent.
For several years, runners expressed the desire to run in their MCM
participant shirt and so the switch in fabric has been made; the mock-style
neck, though, remains. The new shirt is made of a synthetic fiber blend of
polyester and elastane known for elasticity lending to greater mobility.
The upgraded mock neck has a soft brushed interior with dual-layer fabric
resulting in a fast-drying exterior and contains anti-order technology with
chafe-free seam construction.
The MCM participant shirt is light grey with the words "Marines" emblazoned
down the arm, as always. The new MCM mock still fashions the iconic the
Eagle, Globe and Anchor, the Marine Corps symbol, embroidered on the neck
and the MCM logo printed on the front with original patriotic artwork
adorning the back.
MCM10K participants also will receive a blue technical mock neck.
MCM runners "rock the mock" by officially checking in at the Health &
Fitness Expo presented by GE. Packet Pick-up will be held from Oct. 24
through Oct. 26 at the DC Armory.
More information about the 38th MCM is available at www.marinemarathon.com.
Runners in their new mock necks are encouraged to tweet pictures and post
on Instagram during MCM Weekend using #RockTheMock.
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) is the third largest marathon in the United
States, eighth largest in the world and voted "Best Marathon in the Mid
Atlantic" and "Best Marathon for Spectators." The MCM honors the
dedication, sportsmanship and patriotism of its participants. Also known as
"The People's Marathon," runners from all walks of life participate in the
MCM, which is the largest marathon not to offer prize money. The 38th MCM
sponsored by Arlington, Boeing, Brooks, GE and Nissan, will be held on
October 27, 2013 in Arlington, VA. No federal or Marine Corps endorsement
is implied.
