Available Online at Noon EST
QUANTICO, VA (March 13, 2013) - The 38th Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) will
open registration online at noon EST on Wednesday, March 27 at
www.marinemarathon.com Runners around the world are poised for the public
opening of 30,000 entries for "The People's Marathon," which will be held on
Sunday, Oct. 27 in Arlington, VA, and throughout the nation's capital.
In 2012, the MCM sold out all available entries in a record 2 hours, 41
minutes, surpassing all other large U.S. marathons. The fast-paced sellout
was celebrated by runners over social media channels adding to the fever
pitch of MCM registration day.
"To best support the high demand and heavy volume of online traffic, the
MCM has been working with the online registration service to test system
capacity to avoid delays and server issues," says Rick Nealis, MCM
Director. "We expect runners will have immediate success on registration
day."
The MCM is also offering these registration day tips to runners:
Tip #1: Once the registration form has been opened, fill out all fields
thoroughly and completely and consider which items you want to purchase.
Brooks training shirts and hats, Carbo Dining-In tickets, the MarathonFoto
super coupon and the MCM Online Trainer will additionally be on sale on MCM
registration day.
Tip #2: After submitting registration payment, a confirmation message will
appear on screen. Print the message as it includes each individual runner
registration ID number.
Tip #3: Don't freak out if you fail to receive a confirmation email
immediately after completing the registration process. The distribution of
confirmation emails will be purposely delayed to reduce stress on system
throughout open registration.
Registration for this year's MCM is $99, making "The People's Marathon"
still one of the most affordable and advantageous for the participant.
"Despite other soaring marathon registration costs, the MCM has kept its
registration price in check while offering each runner amenities from the
classic competitor shirt and MCM patch, to advanced results and timing
services, to the official event program and even the opportunity to attend
free MCM Weekend events," adds Nealis.
Acknowledged as the best organized running event in the world, the MCM
annually is coordinated by the U.S. Marine Corps. The MCM is the third
largest U.S. marathon and eighth largest in the world, and the largest
marathon that does not offer prize money. Participants ages 14 and above
can register to participate in the 38th MCM.
All Active Duty and military Reservists (from every service branch) have
until midnight EST on Sunday, March 24 to receive a 15 percent discount off
the full registration cost for the 38th MCM. The registration discount,
offered by MCM partner GEICO, began on February 23, allowing military
members to pay just $84.15 to register. The 15 percent discount echoes
GEICO's slogan, "15 minutes could save you 15 percent or more on car
insurance," and marks the fourth year the insurance company has teamed with
the MCM on this early access offer.
