The Canadian Tire Jumpstart program works with community organizations to
form local Chapters that identify and approve the children who receive
support. Launched in 2005, Canadian Tire Jumpstart is a charitable program
to help kids in financial need participate in organized sports and
recreation such as hockey, dance, soccer, and swimming. The program covers
costs such as registration fees, transportation and equipment. National in
scope but local in its focus, Canadian Tire Jumpstart delivers support to
children through a Canadian-wide network of local chapters, made up of a
variety of community leaders committed to helping kids get active.
"Canadian Tire Jumpstart are pleased to be partnering with the Mississauga
Marafun program to help support financially disadvantaged children to
participate. Any opportunity we get to reach out to more children to help
them become more active in sport and recreation programs is great" says
Harry J. Bell Canadian Tire Ontario Regional Manager.
With the goal of creating "A Run for Everyone", the 7th annual 2010
Mississauga Marathon presented by Canon will continue with marathon
festival traditions where spectators, volunteers, runners and their
families will have a chance to enjoy a day of fitness and entertainment.
This year's events include; Canon Marathon, Half Marathon, Corporate and
Team Relay Challenge, Desjardins General Insurance 10K & 10K Student Relay,
and a community favorite, "The Hazel" 5K. A 2K Family Fun Run/Walk rounds
out the weekend ensuring that there is an event for everyone, all ages and
abilities.
"The Mississauga Marathon is thrilled to announce a partnership with
Canadian Tire Jumpstart. We believe this new initiative will give children
a chance to run, be active and most importantly have fun. Together, we will
provide an opportunity for kids across the city to get involved in running
-a chance they may not have otherwise had," says Eric Condron, Assistant
Race Director of the Mississauga Marathon.
Local charity partners will include the Colorectal Cancer Association of
Canada, The Credit Valley Hospital Foundation, Trillium Health Centre
Foundation and William Osler Health Centre Foundation, YMCA Mississauga,
United Way of Peel, MS Society and Jerry Love Children's Fund. Runners not
only can donate to the charity of their choice, but can also collect
