HUDSON MOHAWK ROAD RUNNERS CLUB ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH
ADIDAS AND FLEET FEET SPORTS ALBANY AS SPONSORS OF
MOHAWK HUDSON RIVER MARATHON
Albany, N.Y. (March 25, 2010) - The Hudson Mohawk Road Runners Club (HMRRC)
announced today that adidas and Fleet Feet Sports Albany have signed on as
sponsors of the Mohawk Hudson River Marathon. The Marathon will take place
on Sunday, October 10, 2010 beginning in Schenectady's Central Park and
ending the 26.2 mile journey at Albany Riverfront Park at Corning Preserve
in Albany.
Because of its slightly downhill course, the Mohawk Hudson River Marathon
has traditionally been used by runners seeking to meet the strict
qualifying times needed to run the Boston Marathon, the oldest and most
prestigious marathon in the country. In May 2009, Runners World Magazine
named the Mohawk Hudson River Marathon as one of the top 10 “Superfast
Marathons” in the U.S. due to the high overall percentage of runners who
ran times that qualified them to run the Boston Marathon.
"Our partnership with the Mohawk Hudson River Marathon is a perfect fit
with our sponsorship of the Boston Athletic Association Running Club and as
the Official Footwear and Apparel Supplier for the Boston Marathon" said
Michael McGrane, adidas' New England and New York Sales Representative.
"Having adidas on board will raise the prestige of Mohawk Hudson River
Marathon and allow HMRRC to take this already widely recognized event to
the next level" said Charles Woodruff, Owner of Fleet Feet Sports -
Albany.
"Fleet Feet Albany is an integral part of the running community in the
Capital District and is a loyal supporter of HMRRC. We are very excited to
partner with them and adidas to make the marathon a world-class event, and
one that will entice runners to come back to the Capital District year
after year" said Cathy Sliwinski, who with her husband Rob directs the
race.
The Mohawk Hudson River Marathon, now is its 28th year, is organized and
directed by HMRRC, a not-for-profit running club with more than 2000
members in the Capital Region. HMRRC's mission is to promote the sport of
distance running through education and training and to encourage running as
a part of a healthy lifestyle. The club puts on almost 30 low or no-cost
road, track and trail running events annually. Profits from the marathon
help underwrite HMRRC's many programs, including scholarships for local
college-bound high school seniors, grants for youth running programs and
other running-related activities, a "recycling" program for used running
shoes and t-shirts, and supports its monthly magazine, The Pacesetter,
which highlights past and future regional running events and results.
adidas, Fleet Feet Sports Albany and HMRRC have also joined efforts to
offer a five-month training program with coaching, weekly runs, adidas
technical training shirts and membership in HMRRC.
The Marathon is run simultaneously with the Mohawk Hudson River Half
Marathon, which is presented by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for
Tots Program. The 13.1 mile half marathon starts at Colonie Town Park and
finishes with the Marathon in Albany. For more information and to
register for the training program or either race, see
