'My Run' The Award Winning Documentary Set To Light Up The Gaslamp Quarter
October 2nd & 3rd At The San Diego Film Festival
Academy Award winner Billy Bob Thornton lends his voice to MY RUN, an
uplifting documentary that captures the story of real life hero Terry
Hitchcock, a man who lost his wife to breast cancer, raised three young
children on his own, and then at age 57 ran 75 consecutive marathons in 75
consecutive days to honor his wife and bring attention and a voice to the
everyday hardships faced by single parent families.
Los Angeles, Ca. - September 23, 2010 - Indiewood Pictures in association
with Destiny Pictures are proud to announce that MY RUN will screen at the
San Diego Film Festival on Saturday, October 2nd at 3:00pm and Sunday,
October 3rd at 5:30pm at the Gaslamp Theater, 701 Fifth Avenue, 92101 with
the filmmakers in attendance. Tickets can be purchased at the festival
website www.sdff.org.
"A powerful must see documentary that shows true faith and perseverance."
said Natalie Acklin-- Festival Director San Diego Film Festival. MY RUN is
produced and directed by Tim VandeSteeg, produced by Mark Castaldo and
narrated by Billy Bob Thornton.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), Celebrating 25
Years of Awareness, Education, and Empowerment. In honor and support of
NBCAM the MY RUN filmmakers invite all Cancer awareness organizations,
groups, volunteers, care givers, survivors, and audience festival goers to
attend and wear something "pink" to the MY RUN screening (s), and/or wear a
piece of clothing of any cancer organization they support; LIVESTRONG,
Susan G. Komen, ACS, Relay for Life, Treasured Chests Events--any group to
acknowledge awareness and support.
MY RUN tells the amazing journey of this 57 year-old father who ran from
his home in St. Paul, MN to the opening ceremony of the 1996 Olympics in
Atlanta, GA. Terry’s underdog story has been garnering steam and is being
embraced by all walks of life, families, baby boomers, single parents and
cancer organizations, and of course runners and marathoners. "This
inspiring documentary shows us how powerful the human spirit is and how
after immense struggle comes an even greater elation." said Deena Kastor--
Olympic Medalist and American Record Holder.
Audiences have been moved by Terry’s story, because it exemplifies
commitment to something greater than yourself, it embodies the importance
of having a belief in yourself that you can accomplish anything that you
put your mind to, that nothing is impossible. Most importantly, Terry is an
example of the triumph of the human spirit over adversity. MY RUN is more
than a film about a guy running multiple marathons; it’s a film about the
daily marathons we all run in life. MY RUN is the ultimate super HERO story
of a man whose super powers are his courage, compassion, and absolute love
and willingness to do whatever it takes to protect and provide for his
family and improve the lives of others. Terry may not have an "S" on his
chest, but he exemplifies what a real "super-man" is all about and he shows
us that the greatest "heroes" today are individuals willing to step up and
make a difference. The film’s message is Be Somebody’s Hero.
MY RUN has made an impressive and powerful impact on the film festival
circuit, winning awards and accolades, receiving national press and
positive reviews, selling out screenings and receiving standing ovations.
Last week, MY RUN won the "Audience Award" for Best Documentary at the 2010
Big Bear Lake Int’l Film Festival" as it played to a full and energetic
theater. To date MY RUN has claimed over (8) "Best Documentary" Awards
including the "Family-Friendly" Seal from The Dove Foundation and a 5 Dove
rating (Dove’s highest quality rating), while inspiring thousands of
festival goers. The journey began in October 2009 with its World Premiere
at the Austin Film Festival, where MY RUN played to a sold out, standing
ovation crowd and went on to win the "Audience Award" for Best Documentary.
MY RUN has garnered kudos from individuals, magazines and organizations --
"An astonishing documentary-- It’s truly a story of endurance and faith."
said the Dove Foundation. "Your film is so important to raising awareness
of so many issues including the power of the human spirit. Mr. Hitchcock’s
vision and story is one I will never forget." said Doug Ulman President/CEO
of LIVESTRONG. "I’m a marathoner running the Sedona marathon. I came here
to be inspired to run, but instead was inspired to love my wife more" said
ultra-marathoner Bob Redwanc.
The MY RUN filmmakers have begun a successful grassroots approach to
publicizing and bringing awareness to the film and has created an
impressive following through the documentary’s social media sites;
www.facebook.com/myrunmovie, www.twitter.com/myrunmovie and
www.myrunmovie.com.
