Records Broken at 3rd Annual SunTrust National Marathon
PRs, Course Records Broken, and Money Donated to
Sports Alliance League of Charities
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The 3rd annual SunTrust National Marathon was a huge
success, with over 1,000 volunteers and almost 5,500 participants running
either the full or the half marathon event. An impressive showing was also
made by District residents, who supported this community event with
enthusiasm and shared civic pride.
Another measure of success could be the many records broken on race day.
Not only did some notable runners, including District of Columbia Mayor
Adrian Fenty, WMZQ Morning Host Brian Egan, and Olympic Speedskater Dan
Jansen, all break personal marathon records, course records were broken by
three-time men's marathon champion Michael Wardian (2:24:59), men's half
marathon winner Ezkyas Sisay (1:06:17), and women's half marathon winner
Samia Akbar (1:16:31).
Fashion Time, the Official Timekeeper of the 2008 SunTrust National
Marathon, is prepared to honor its commitment to its 'Beat the Clock'
program, donating $1,000 toward the Greater Washington Sports Alliance
League of Charities, as a result of these broken course records.
