NEW JERSEY MARATHON TEAMING WITH THE LEADER
IN AUTOMATED TIMING AND SCORING IN 2008
CompuScore Coming Aboard to Time and Score 12th Annual Event
LONG BRANCH, NJ, June 18, 2007 - Preparations for the 2008 New Jersey
Marathon kicked off today with news that one of the world's leading
automated timing and scoring systems will come aboard for the 12th annual
racing event.
Marathon organizers have teamed with CompuScore to bring the
internationally recognized ChampionChip System to the 26.2-mile marathon
and its two companion events - the Long Branch Half Marathon and four- and
three-person Marathon Relay - on Sunday, May 4, 2008.
ChampionChip's synchronized capabilities will offer seamless flexibility in
timing all three race-day events from start to finish, as well as
streamline registration during the three-day New Jersey Marathon Weekend
from May 2 to May 4. The system's advanced design also will make it
possible for each race participant's name and hometown to be announced upon
crossing the finish line along the Long Branch Ocean Promenade.
"In strengthening our relationship with CompuScore for 2008, these new
features will further enhance the racing experience for thousands of New
Jersey Marathon participants who will join us for our 12th year," says race
director Art Castellano, president of the New Jersey Road Runners Club,
which spearheads the event. "We are extremely pleased to take this
important step, which is paramount to ensuring that 2008 is our best year
ever."
CompuScore also will provide New Jersey Marathoners with Web-based access
to racing results and e-Finisher Certificates that document their finish
time. The New Providence, N.J.-based company provides a full range of
services for racing events, including the ChampionChip System, which is
recognized throughout the world for timing such signature races as the New
York City Marathon and Boston Marathon.
The 2008 New Jersey Marathon will feature its scenic two-loop course that
boasts an oceanfront start and finish, and threads through the diverse
neighborhoods and business districts of host city Long Branch and adjacent
Monmouth Beach.
Entering its 12th year, the weekend event attracts nearly 9,000 total
participants to the USA Track & Field-certified 26.2-mile marathon, which
has grown in popularity as a Boston Marathon qualifier, as well as the Long
Branch Half Marathon and four- and three-person Marathon Relay.
Billed as a "something for everyone" weekend at the Jersey Shore, it also
will host a Health and Fitness Expo on Friday, May 2 and Saturday May 3,
and a slate of family and children's activities on Saturday.
The 2008 New Jersey Marathon Weekend will continue its tradition as a
benefit for children's charities, placing the spotlight on marking Global
Hepatitis Awareness Month in May. It has partnered with BoscosBuddies.org,
an Oceanport-based charity whose goal is to raise awareness of hepatitis C
and liver disease through participation in running and walking events
across the country.
"We are proud and privileged to be part of this extremely worthy effort in
shedding light on this increasingly serious disease, which affects millions
of people throughout the world," Castellano said. "Funds raised will go
toward elevating not only hepatitis awareness, but increasing research
efforts in hopes of a cure."
