FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NJ Transit Teams Up With The New Jersey Marathon
Long Branch, NJ (April 10, 2008) - Art Castellano, Race Director of the
12th annual New Jersey Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, May 4, is very
pleased to have the support of NJ Transit. With a "Special Marathon Train",
in the process of being scheduled as of this Press Release, it is expected
that at least 1,000 cars will be kept off the highways and local streets of
Long Branch.
"With more that 5,000 participants coming just from NJ and an additional
1,000 from New York City", Castellano says, "I expect at least 1,000 to
"Train-it" to our host city of Long Branch". The Long Branch Train Station
is actually just over a 1/2 mile from our host hotel, Ocean Place Resort &
Spa that sits next to our Start/Finish Line on the very beautiful ocean
front Promenade.
Castellano adds, "This is a very timely happening since many of our record
registration of nearly 10,000 participants now have an alternative that
will both allow for easy transit to and from our event saving time and
potential aggravation. This special train will be a local train allowing
for many to park at stations along the entire North Jersey Coastal Line".
There are so many cars coming in between the hours of 5:00 AM and 7:00AM
(marathon start time is 7:30 AM) that many will be parking farther away
than the Long Branch train station. After completing their event many will
also find it difficult departing with many local road closings and
detours. This is not a problem if using NJ Transit. Departure times from
Long Branch are hourly with an abundance of seats!
"With the New Jersey Marathon and it's sister events, the Long Branch Half
Marathon and Norwood Agency-Marathon Relay experiencing a very big growth
spurt in the past 3 years, this special NJ Transit service is essential to
our continued growth", says Castellano.
