OKC MEMORIAL MARATHON PRE-REGISTRATION
ON ANOTHER RECORD PACE
Event organizers looking to another record for participation
OKLAHOMA CITY – Pre-registration for the 8th Annual Oklahoma City Memorial
Marathon is over 30% ahead of last year's record-setting result for both
the full Marathon and Half Marathon. Registration for the 5-person Relay
is also well ahead of previous years, with the Kids Marathon and 5K Walk
also outpacing previous years at this stage of pre-registration.
"We're excited to present yet another record-breaking slate of events,"
said Chet Collier, director of the OKC Memorial Marathon. "Word is truly
'on the street' about our events, and Oklahoma City is now becoming a
destination for the national running community.
"Runners nationwide and even worldwide know who we are and what we do here,
and they want to be a part of the excitement," Collier continued.
Race organizers won't predict final registrations figures at this point,
but are confident of well surpassing last year's record total of 14,000
participants in the five events.
"The fact that our greatest increase in registration is being seen in the
two premier events – the full and half marathons – is a tribute to our 5000
volunteers and to the Memorial itself," Collier added. "We've always said
that we're a race that's not just about running, and the response we get
from runners around the world affirms our efforts.
"Ours is truly a Race to Remember, and there is plenty of room for more to
join us downtown, run a great race, and remember those lives lost on April
19, 1995,"

The 8th running of the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon is set for April 27,
2008. The event weekend includes marathon, wheelchair marathon, half
marathon, 5-person relay, a Kid's Marathon and the 5K Memorial Walk. In
addition, there will be a fitness exposition, a pre-race pasta party held
at the Oklahoma City National Memorial and a moving sunrise prayer service
the morning of the race.
