Countdown for the Cyprus Ultra Sports Pafos Marathon 2005
HUNDREDS of excited runners will be lining up for the start of the Cyprus
Ultra Sports Pafos Marathon 2005. The event which will be held on Sunday
6th March incorporates three different distances the Marathon, Half
Marathon and the 10 km Road Race. Preparations are coming to an end of what
promises to be once again one of the greatest road races ever run in
Cyprus. At the moment the number of runners taking part has swollen to 200.
The race has already attracted runners from England, Germany, Belgium,
Austria, Holland, France, Lebanon, Israel, Syria, Italy, Spain, Holland,
Russia, USA and Sweden.
The Marathon course (www.ultrasportspafosmarathon.com/course.htm)
will start from Petra tou Romiou (Birthplace of Aphrodite goddess of love
and beauty) and finish at the Pafos Mediaeval Fort square. There is also a
Half Marathon and 10 km Road Race starting and finishing at the Pafos
Mediaeval Fort square nearby the Pafos fishing harbour. Collection of race
numbers and a bag, can be made from the Organisers Desk at the reception of
Basilica Complex Holiday Resort which is situated at a very convenient
location (only 300 meters away from the Pafos Mediaeval Fort). Basilica

A number of interesting functions have been prepared for the runners such
as the Live Pasta Party (tickets at CY £8,00) on Saturday evening 5th March
2005 prior to the run at the Basilica Complex Holiday Resort. On race day
the entertainment activity programme will include the Pafos Municipality
Band who will perform a full musical programme and a dancing group who will
perform both Greek / Cypriot folk dance and invite participants /
spectators to join in.
All runners will be offered free of charge LEON beer (Original Cyprus brew
since 1937), ample quantities of the 100% ENA orange fruit juice, AGROS (EU
approved) Natural Mineral Water, Ultra Sports (www.ultra-sports.net/)
high perfomance drinks and ample quantities of seasonal fruit (oranges &
bananas). Hotdogs, hamburgers and kebabs will be also available at very
reasonable prices. Each participant will be given a quality, commemorative
T-shirt and an engraved medal. Marathon event finishers will be given a
commemorative Certificate. Awards will be given to the first three runners
in each of the 48 age group categories.
