FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Philadelphia Marathon and Half Marathon Reach Capacity;
Registration Still Available Through Participating Charities
PHILADELPHIA (October 13, 2011) – The 18th annual Philadelphia Marathon has
sprinted to the finish line and reached capacity, with a record number of
participants signed up for the 2011 race.
Organizers are now encouraging interested non-registered runners to support
a cause by signing up through an official charity. More than 25,000 runners
and 60,000 families, friends, spectators and residents will descend on
Philadelphia during Marathon Race Weekend, November 18-20, 2011.
Registration for the half marathon and marathon has surpassed last year's
total. The capacity of both events has been reached, but registration spots
are still available through official charities. Spaces are open for the
Rothman Institute 8K, but they are expected to fill up quickly, as race-day
approaches.
"We look forward to welcoming the more than 25,000 expected runners to
running's best host city," said Philadelphia Marathon Executive Director
Melanie Johnson. "Although registration for the full and half marathon has
closed, there are many spots still available through our official charities
for these two events. Running for a cause is a rewarding experience for
both the athletes and the organizations that receive immense support and
funds from Philadelphia Marathon Race Weekend participants."
The Philadelphia Marathon official charity partner is Students Run Philly
Style, a unique program that offers marathon training to help young people
succeed in life. The only one of its kind in Philadelphia, the program
connects students with adult mentors who help them imagine and accomplish
goals beyond their dreams, including the completion of a marathon.
Guaranteed entry to the Philadelphia Marathon and Half Marathon is
available through fund-raising for Students Run Philly Style. Visit
