FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Philadelphia Marathon Seeks Volunteers
Volunteers needed to join the marathon team for 19th Annual Race Weekend.
PHILADELPHIA (October 25, 2012) –It takes more than just the runners to put
on a race. Philadelphia Marathon Weekend engages 3,000 volunteers to help
make all of the races happen.
However, while many volunteers have already signed up, there is still an
opportunity to be a part of the excitement.
Volunteers will be a big part of creating the Philadelphia Marathon Race
Weekend experience for the more than 30,000 participants who come to
Philadelphia from every state in the nation and more than 40 countries, as
well as local residents. As the 8th largest Marathon in the country,
according to Marathonguide.com (a leading race authority), Philadelphia
Marathon Race Weekend includes a series of fun, athletic and entertaining
activities -- two-day Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, November 16 and
Saturday, November 17; the Rothman Institute 8K on Saturday, November 17,
and the Philadelphia Marathon and Philadelphia Half Marathon on Sunday,
November 18.
Volunteers will have a front-row seat to the race. Volunteering provides an
opportunity to assist the community, meet other people and enjoy a day of
race-watching in many historic Philadelphia neighborhoods. Groups, such as
friends, family, co-workers, schools, churches and community organizations,
are encouraged to sign up together.
Volunteer opportunities include assisting at designated race areas, handing
out water to runners and joining the City of Philadelphia and marathon's
Waste Watchers team, which will be overseeing recycling and composting
during the races.
Those interested in volunteering can register online at the Volunteer
Sectionof PhiladelphiaMarathon.com --
www.philadelphiamarathon.com/for-volunteers/register-to-volunteer– or can
call the Marathon Hotline at (215) 683-2122. All volunteers will receive an
official 2012 Philadelphia Marathon volunteer sweatshirt.

Philadelphia Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday, November 18; the Rothman
Institute 8K and Kids Fun Run on Saturday, November 17; and a free two-day
