FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Prague International Marathon Announces A Second Gold
Prague, October 21st, 2010: After an incredibly exciting and eventful
running season, the Prague International Marathon, spol. s r.o. ("PIM") has
announced today that it has received the prestigious IAAF Road Race Gold
Label for the 2011 edition of its Volkswagen Prague Marathon. The receipt
of the IAAF Gold Label is the ultimate accolade for any road race, and only
a very few races worldwide have such recognition.
Carlo Capalbo, President of the PIM Organising Committee, who symbolically
received a replica of the Gold Label from Libor Varhanik, Chairman of the
Czech Athletic Federation at today's joint press conference, commented:
"It is a significant honour, and it fills us with great pride, to have
received the IAAF Road Race Gold Label for a second one of our races. There
is so much that goes on behind the scenes with regards to the
organizational work, which is often obscured to the runners and the public,
but needs to be perfectly coordinated. In this sense, there will always be
room for improvement, but the Gold Label gives us the motivation to
continue to make our races even better.
Carlo Capalbo continued to highlight the importance of all those involved
in the races:
"The Gold Label recognizes the contribution of the whole city of Prague,
including it's magical atmosphere, all of our volunteers, the police,
medics, partners, institutions, media and most importantly, all of the
Prague inhabitants for their ongoing support. I would like thank everyone
from the bottom of my heart as I am very pleased that the Czech Republic
has once again managed to make a golden mark on the world's sport scene.
PIM already holds the IAAF Road Race Gold Label for its Hervis Prague Half
Marathon and the IAAF Road Race Silver Label for the METRO Men's Race 10 km
(a part of the TESCO Prague Grand Prix). The second Gold Label is a
testament that the City of Prague is well and truly one of the world's
leading sporting cities.
The Gold Label is attributed to races that satisfy a number of important
criteria concerning the organizational standard of the race, certified
course measurement, safety and medical standards and media services. Most
importantly for the awarding of a Gold Label, is the number and quality of
elite athletes involved in the race and the ensuring of local and
international TV coverage. The ambience, too, is really important, and this
is, of course, one of the main attributes of the PIM Running Circuit
events, which always have a truly fantastic atmosphere, which is a crucial
part of any successful race.
Entries for the Hervis Prague Half Marathon 2011 and the Volkswagen Prague
Marathon 2011 are now open. Keep an eye on the website for ongoing
