FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Prague International Marathon Continues Its
Record-Breaking Run
Prague, January 28th, 2011: Prague International Marathon spol. s r.o.
("PIM"), the organiser of the PIM Running Circuit that includes the Hervis
Prague Half Marathon (April 2nd, 2011), the Volkswagen Prague Marathon (May
8th, 2011) and the Prague Grand Prix (September 10th, 2011), has announced
today that, following on from its record breaking 2010 season, the 2011
race registrations are up by 30% in comparison to the same period last
year.
The year 2010, the 2500th anniversary of the first ever marathon, was an
incredible year for PIM, with both mens' and womens' race records broken in
its main event, the Volkswagen Prague Marathon. Eliud Kiptanui of Kenya
finished the race in 2:05:39, making it the 10th fastest marathon of 2010,
whilst another Kenyan runner, Helena Kirop, broke the women's course record
in 2:25:29. The fantastic performances of the runners, combined with the
precise organisation and electrifying atmosphere of the race, led to the
organisers being awarded the coveted IAAF Road Race Gold Label for the
Volkswagen Prague Marathon 2011, which means that PIM is now the holder of
one IAAF Road Race Silver and two IAAF Road Race Gold Labels for its races.
Carlo Capalbo, the President of the PIM Organising Committee and AIMS Board
Director, said:
"We know that the popularity of running events is increasing globally, with
over 500 marathons taking place and 80 million runners taking part in
Europe alone. We aim to make our races through the beautiful City of Prague
real sporting spectaculars that bring thousands of people not only to take
part, but also to watch the incredible private battles that runners fight
within themselves."
All of PIM's races are growing in popularity year-on-year, and the
organizers had to close entries for all of its main races in advance last
year, as the capacity was reached early. PIM recommends that all those
runners still planning to take part in its races ensure their early
registration, to be sure of an entry.
