New Board Enthusiastically Begins Reinvigoration of RRCA

The major topic of discussion at the Board meeting (June 25-26) of the Road
Runners Club of America (RRCA) was how best to return the RRCA to its roots
and elevate it to its rightful place as the leading proponent of distance
running in the United States. The meeting was held at the RRCA's national
headquarters in Alexandria, VA.

The RRCA is a national organization representing over 600 clubs, events and
corporate members. At its national convention in Lake Tahoe, NV this past
May, new Board members and officers were chosen and a formal Letter of
Agreement (LOA) to merge the RRCA and the American Association of Running
Clubs (AARC) was unanimously approved. The LOA outlines the steps required
for a successful merger to take place, one that would re-establish a single
voice for grass roots running on a national level. The AARC is comprised of
79 clubs, and events, including some of the largest in the United States,
with 32,000 members. "Uniting the two groups will create an organization
able to harness exceptional resources," said RRCA President Bee Andrews.

The 2004-2005 RRCA Board of Directors are:

Bee Andrews: President-VA
Tom Downing: Vice President-GA
Todd Neville: Secretary/ Treasurer-FL
Brent Ayer: Eastern Regional Director-AR
David Samuel: Southern Regional Director-AR
Beth Onines: Central Regional Director-IL
Lisa Paige: Western Regional Director-CO
John Farrow: At Large Member-NM
David Epstein: At Large Member-AK
David Williams: At Large Member-AR
Chuck George: At Large Member-LA

"We had a tremendously productive Board meeting and I am more confident
than ever that this team can successfully increase the RRCA's prominence,
respect and leadership of our sport. The skill sets this new Board brings
to the table are ideal for guiding the RRCA through the required steps for
a successful merger between the RRCA and AARC. After much hard work, it's
exciting to see a stronger, unified RRCA within reach, " Andrews added.

RRCA President Bee Andrews appointed several task forces, which will
immediately begin looking at the current RRCA Board structure to assess if
changes need to be made, the composition and funding of the State
Representative Program, RRCA communication, and a strategic planning
process. In addition, several Bylaws changes will be recommended to the
membership at its 2005 annual meeting with the goal of updating and
modernizing the RRCA Bylaws. "We have a full plate," said Andrews, " but
this Board, with the support of our membership and new Executive Director,
Becky Lambros is determined that we will see a stronger, healthier Road
Runner's Club of America.
