Blue Cross And Blue Shield Of Oklahoma Announces Presenting Sponsorship
Of Williams Route 66 Marathon
Tulsa, Okla. (April 28, 2010) - The directors of the Tulsa Route 66
Marathon, Inc., are pleased to welcome Blue Cross and Blue Shield of
Oklahoma as the new presenting sponsor of the Williams Route 66 Marathon,
which benefits the Tulsa Area United Way, and all associated events.
Williams Route 66 Marathon and company representatives announced the
partnership at the Blue Cross and Blue Shield National Walk at Lunch Day
today, Wednesday, April 28.
National Walk at Lunch Day is a national workplace walking program designed
to encourage employees to take a walk on their lunch break. Companies
across the state can be part of this exciting national event that inspires
Americans to incorporate walking into their daily work schedule.
"Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma is thrilled to present the Williams
Route 66 Marathon," said Bert Marshall, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of
Oklahoma president. "Sponsoring this event made sense for us because it
fits perfectly with our mission to promote healthy living in Tulsa and in
Oklahoma. We are proud to sponsor an event designed to make life better
for our community."
This sponsorship includes the Williams Route 66 Quarter Marathon in August
and the Williams Route 66 Marathon in November.
Marshall addressed National Walk at Lunch Day participants and announced
the decision to sponsor this event. Jack Wing, community relations
director for Tulsa Route 66 Marathon, Inc., spoke about what this
sponsorship will mean for the race and for Tulsa, and announced this year’s
Williams Route 66 Marathon Run Ambassadors: Tulsa World reporters Cary
Aspinwall and Jason Ashley Wright.
"This year, we celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Williams Route 66
Marathon," said Chris Lieberman, executive director of Tulsa Route 66
Marathon, Inc. "We are quickly gaining recognition around the world as a
premiere marathon, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s support strengthens
that mission. We are proud to partner with them for the races, for Tulsa
and for the health of our community."
Also during the presentation, Lori Dreiling of Fleet Feet of Tulsa
announced the addition of a running training program in downtown Tulsa and
Tulsa First Lady Victoria Bartlett spoke about the Tulsa Million Miles

About the Williams Route 66 Marathon
The Williams Route 66 Marathon in Tulsa, Okla., is set for Sunday, Nov. 21,
2010, and the Williams Route 66 Quarter Marathon is Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010.
Events are held annually the Sunday before Thanksgiving and the first
Saturday in August, respectively. The fifth anniversary of the Williams
Route 66 Marathon weekend includes a two-day health and fitness expo, pasta
dinner, marathon, half marathon, five-person marathon relay, 5K run/walk,
