FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Candlelight Ceremony Scheduled in Memory of Fallen Runner
Tulsa, Okla. (Nov. 24, 2010) – The board of directors of Tulsa Route 66
Marathon Inc. announced today that a candlelight ceremony is scheduled for
this weekend in memory of Marcus Takach. The ceremony will be at River
Parks near 15th and Riverside Drive on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, at 6 p.m.
Takach, 27, collapsed while participating in the Williams Route 66 Half
Marathon on Sunday, Nov. 21.
"The loss of Takach, as a runner and as a person, is a tragedy for the
Tulsa community," said Chris Lieberman, executive director of the Tulsa
Route 66 Marathon, Inc. "While our thoughts and prayers are with the family
at this time, we are holding this ceremony for the Tulsa community and the
running community to celebrate his life and accomplishments."
Takach, a Tulsa native, graduated from both Booker T. Washington High
School and The University of Tulsa. He was a certified public accountant at
Ernst & Young.
"Marcus' life was a gift to his family and friends and everyone whose lives
he touched," said Lilla Takach, Marcus' mother. "We greatly appreciate
outpouring of love and support of the community, the Williams Route 66
Marathon, Ernst & Young and friends of the family."
Takach was a fitness and running enthusiast, his mother added.
Anyone wishing to attend the ceremony is welcome. Stephen Fisher, chaplain
at the OSU Medical Center, will preside over the ceremony.
