Over 300 Runners Participate in Fourth Annual Sault Area Chamber Chase
5k Run/Walk, Bridge Run, Half-Marathon and Full Marathon
Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan - 320 runners registered to participate in the
Fourth Annual Sault Area Chamber Chase and took up the challenge to run one
of the four races, Marathon / Half-Marathon / Bridge Run and 5K Run/Walk on
Saturday, September 28. The flat, scenic course started at Lake Superior
State University and proceeded over the International Bridge and back,
continued along Portage Avenue to Riverside Dr., out to Nicolet with a
return back to town and a finish on Water Street at City Hall. The course
has been marked as beautiful and unique by runners.
With the number of runners splitting the four races, both the Bridge Run at
6.6miles (slightly longer than a 10k) and the Half Marathon were at record
numbers for the Chamber Chase. Runners represented three countries being
the United States, Canada and Great Britain. 9 states were represented by
runners traveling within the United States from Florida, Illinois, Indiana,
Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New York and Wisconsin. "The Sault
Area Chamber Chase International Marathon is one of those secrets in
America that needs to get out" Dale Ferdon, Full Marathon Runner.
The race was made possible by supportive sponsors and a remarkable turnout
of volunteers from area organizations and individuals. Over 100 volunteers
participated in various aspects of the race, including service as course
marshals, water station attendants, set-up and tear-down at both the
starting and finish lines and medical personnel throughout the course and
at the finish line not to mention the countless entities within the city
that helped make the race go.
The Chase was coordinated in part to coincide with the Downtown Development
Authority's Oktoberfest events downtown. Race officials anticipate hosting
the race once again on September 27, 2014.
