St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend Sells Out, Breaks Registration Record
All three races sell out with a total of 14,000 participants on race day
MEMPHIS, TENN. (November 14, 2008) – The St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend
has reached full capacity with 14,000 registered participants in three
races: marathon, half marathon and the Memphis Grizzlies House 5K. All
races will be held December 6 and benefit St. Jude Children's Research
Hospital®, one of the world's premier pediatric cancer research
centers.
A registration cap was set at 14,000 earlier this year allowing 3,000
registrants for the marathon, 8,000 in the half marathon and 3,000 in the
Memphis Grizzlies House 5K. Last year, the St. Jude Memphis Marathon
Weekend races welcomed more than 11,300 participants. For more information
or to become a volunteer, visit www.stjudemarathon.org.
Currently more than 2,000 race participants have registered as St. Jude
Heroes. These individuals are raising money for the hospital by obtaining
pledges from family and friends as they train for their chosen race. Last
year, more than 1,800 St. Jude Heroes participated in race weekend and
raised more than $1.2 million for St. Jude.
The marathon, half marathon and Memphis Grizzlies House 5K courses feature
many of Memphis' most famous landmarks including Beale Street, Sun Studio
and the National Civil Rights Museum. Each race will end at AutoZone Park,
the home of the AAA baseball team, Memphis Redbirds. The St. Jude Memphis
Marathon Weekend, presented by Juice Plus+®, is a collaborative effort
between St. Jude and the Memphis Runners Track Club.
