Jeff Jonaitis and Muluye Gurma are top finishers in the
sold out St. Jude Memphis Marathon
MEMPHIS, TENN. (December 6, 2008) - Jeff Jonaitis of Tinley Park, Ill. and
Muluye Gurma, originally from Ethiopia and now residing in Silver Spring,
MD, were the top male and female finishers, respectively, in the St. Jude
Memphis Marathon on Saturday, December 6. Jonaitis, 27, finished the 26.2
mile course with a time of 2:19:47 while Gurma finished in 2:44:55 From the
$30,000 prize purse, each runner was awarded $5,000. Proceeds from all
races benefited St. Jude Children's Research Hospital®, one of the world's
premier pediatric cancer research centers.
The sold out St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend races, including a half
marathon and the Memphis Grizzlies House 5K, welcomed 14,000 participants.
Of the total race participants, 2,400 were St. Jude Heroes, a group that
raised funds for St. Jude by encouraging family, friends and coworkers to
sponsor them. Though St. Jude Heroes program and event registration, race
weekend is expected to raise more than $1.8 million.

Memphis Marathon Weekend is presented by Juice Plus+® and is a
collaborative effort between St. Jude and the Memphis Runners Track Club.
The 2009 races will be held Saturday, December 5.
